awesome, intelligently written
Good story development looking forward to the rest of the series. An interesting approach that I haven’t seen before but intriguing

Jeffrey L. Kohanek writes an epic world building wizardry tale with The First Wizard.
In The First Wizard, the reader is introduced to brothers, Ian and Vic, who are living a simple life, and maybe having that hope for adventure, but that all changes when their village is attacked, and they are taken as slaves. The story starts out a bit slow, but in this case, it is fitting for this story. The reader needs to know about the races of magic, and the world that Ian and Vic live in. It is also a long read, but it is worth it. Imagine being taken as slaves just so someone can dominate you. There is great growth in the world, and the characters, through out the story, and the focus is on the world of magic, the world people live in, and how the First Wizard comes to be. I see that this is a first book in a series, so I do look forward to reading the sequel to this. If you love or even like Epic Fantasies, this is the book you want to read. The author has a grand imagination, and not just for the writing, but the world he takes the reader to. I am a fan of Jeffrey L. Kohanek and want to read whatever this author writes. A reader can get lost in the story, and for this story, that's a good thing. Sometimes you have to look around and see where you are before diving back into the story. The reader just embarks on a superb journey. If you don't believe in Wizards or magic, this book will make you think about that. The First Wizard is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. No endless filler
It's been a long time since I've awarded a five star rating so many books these days just boost the word count with pointless descriptions and basic lowest common denominator reading levels. The story is strong, the lands seem realistic and characters are individually thought out. The book is a first of series yet stands on its own leading hints to future storylines and a much needed maturity as so many new books all seem to be geared at a fifth grade reading level.

Well Written, But
Although well written and a good plot, the plot is a little too transparent. You know early on that our hero is special, despite his fragile physicality. It is just a matter of time before he saves the day with his magic. I think this is an entertaining read, just not an age turner.

Nice! Some good ol'Tolkien fashioned quest
A really good read. I have been reading too much sloppy modern fantasy and litrpg and diving into a more formal fantasy was a wonderful palette cleanser. Book 1 is done and we have our diverse crew of characters thrown together by circumstances beyond their control. I feel this wind up is going to wonderfully massively epic and book 2 dare not let me down. Happy reading!

Pacing Issues
Overall the writing, world building, and characters are well done but the pacing is absolutely atrocious. The main theme of the book doesn’t happen until, not exaggerating, 90% through. The book goes on several tangents that seem like foreshadowing but ultimately go nowhere. I was not left looking forward to the next book.

Confusion at the start, but bare with it.
This tale began with many races, fighting for control of their world. Many plans and plots grew and plots. Battles with legendary creatures, trolls, dragons, weircats, eats.Humans , elves, dwarves seeking the saving of their people.Enjoy as I did, heroes striving to bring others down in defeat and outthink outfight outplot and show their peoples strenghts. Great start!

Interesting story, but a little puzzling
The main character was not very interesting and really hard to like. The rest of the characters were fun And easy to root for and reasonably well developed. It will be interesting To find out why the author plays such an emphasis on the MC's ability To adapt and learn languages asso important For him to be Recognized as special.
