A wonderful keyboard if you are part of the target demographic
This is going to be a pretty long review, so if you do not want to read everything, take away this one point. The keyboard is wonderful if you are a fan of music from the last half of the 20th century. This Yamaha Genos2 keyboard is targeted a baby boomers who are financially able to afford the keyboard and who have some prior experience with keyboards. The keyboard is far to complex for beginners. There are much simpler, much less expensive keyboards for those wanting to learn keyboards. The keyboard is not for pianists who want a keyboard that plays like an acoustic piano. There are other keyboards that would be more suitable. This keyboard is more like that of an organ or synthesizer than a piano. This keyboard is not for someone who wants a keyboard with a built-in amplifier and speakers. You will need to provide them separately. While Yamaha makes an add on 2.1 speaker set for the Genos2, many owners use studio monitors and a subwoofer. With high quality speakers, the sound quality of the Genos2 is superb. You do not want to compromise sound quality using a cheap set of computer speakers, although they can be used. The keyboard is not for musicians who want to generate sounds never before heard. They should purchase a synthesizer, not an arranger keyboard. If you love playing music, especially music from the 1950s- 1990s, this keyboard might be just what you are looking for. The Genos2 comes with with 1900 built-in voices which can be further expanded with free and paid expansion packs. These voices can be tweaked with a full array of effects. There are also hundreds of accompaniment styles which an be used for play along/sing along performances. The basic set of styles is heavily influenced by German styles of music such as Schlager. However, free expansion packs can add styles from countries around the world. There are some nice features that compelled me to purchase the Genos 2 rather than less expensive instruments like the PSR SX900. The Genos 2 has WiFi connectivity, a beautiful touch screen which can be replicated on a larger monitor using HDMI output, adequate memory and the ability to connect up to three flashdrives. If you are the right type of person to own a Genos2, it will bring a smile to your face every time you turn it on.

UNTRUSTWORTHY AMAZON RESALE
THE GENOS 2 KEYBOARD, SOLD BY AMAZON RESALE AS NEW, ARRIVED IN DAMAGED ORIGINAL PACKING INSIDE A FLIMSY DAMAGED OUTER BOX. NEITHER BOXES WERE SEALED PROPERLY. AFTER UNPACKING, THE GENOS WAS PLUGGED INTO THE POWER SOCKET BUT COULD NOT BE TURNED ON. IT WAS SOLD AS NEW BUT IT DID NOT WORK. OBVIOUSLY IT HAD NEVER BEEN CHECKED. YOU CANNOT TRUST AMAZON RESALE......! AS A DISABLED PERSON I HAD TO ASK LOTS OF HELP WITH REPACKING THIS HEAVY KEYBOARD. THE FIRST AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS RUDE AND CUT THE CALL OFF WHEN DISCUSSING A RETURN.IT DOES NOT SPEAK WELL OF THE PRODUCT IF YOU CANNOT POWER IT UP.... AS NEW!

The best workstation keyboard for the money
Its a big purchase so a lot of thought has to go into whether you want to buy it, but I think its an amazing unit, and the sounds are amazing. I had the original Tryos I bought in 2001, and am very happy I finally upgraded. The keys feel great and I also purchased the speaker system specifically designed by Yamaha for this keyboard. I work in the music industry and I admit they sound amazing.

Playing is Excellent, installing Yamaha downloads needs improvement
I love the keyboard, just a few minor things could be better, but overall it can't be beat. The system to download from Yamaha website to a PC and then install additional sounds etc. on keyboard is difficult to deal with. Follow all the instructions, and yet many things fail. Waiting for software upgrade and meanwhile enjoying the keyboard immensely.

I Love It
I have to counter this one-star rating with no review. I don't understand where it's coming from. I did not buy this keyboard from Amazon, but I do have it. I had the Genos1 before but sold it years ago. Many people were very disappointed that there were not more improvements between the models, and I had a few disappointments, too, but overall I love it. As compared to the original Genos, I found the sounds better, the styles better, the pianos definitely better (I couldn't even use the pianos on the Genos 1), and there are some other improvements that are quite handy. To me, what is most important about the keyboard is the sounds. I love the acoustic instruments, like the saxes and flutes and the great new guitar. The arranger aspect is not so important to me, but to some people it's really important. I tried the Korg pa5x but I didn't care for the keyboard or sounds. I happen to love the sounds in Genos. Even though this has a synth keybed, by changing the fixed ratio on the touch, I find I can play quite expressively. Everyone has different needs in a keyboards. This one might be the one for you.
