Proto 577-5299 Boxes Tool Set

The plastic outer case for my socket set was disintegrating, but the set itself is still good and has everything I need. The steel box was almost a perfect fit for the indented plastic liner. A little bit of wood and a little bit of foam and some glue and it should last a long time. I have some Con-tact foam shelf liner that I will attach to the inside of the lid. I wouldn't mind if it had a small handle, but it is easy enough to carry as is.

I snagged this for about fifteen bucks and for the price it's not bad. As others have mentioned the corners are not welded or anything but as this is actually made from some sturdy sheetmetal rather than the heavy tinfoil you usually get these days I don't see it as a problem. Loading a box this small up enough to deform the sides would take some serious effort. The construction is all metal to include the latch & hinges. The latch isn't super impressive but on a box this size it's perfectly adequate. I'm not entirely sure what I'll put in it. I've got some Tekton hard handle screwdrivers in it right now (god I love those screwdrivers) but I think I may end up fitting it with some foam and keeping a dial caliper and micrometer I don't have cases for in it. All in all this is a great little box and I don't regret buying it one bit.

I like that it’s all metal. I’m going to use it as a 1/4” drive socket kit. I have an old Matco box with an additional drawer. Perfect size, also bought flat ceramic magnets to keep everything organized. Great addition to my tool bag.

For the price there’s NOTHING wrong with it. All metal no plastic including hinges. The sticker is the new logo (see pic) The one thing is the corners are not welded (see my 3rd pic) still sturdy but technically I could bend a side wall down by hand IF I wanted to BUT the lid does over-bite all 4 side walls when closed so even with heavy tools they would never bend down or open.Ps even with adhesive goo-gone the bar code sticker on top of lid was a pain to remove.

After destroying a couple of plastic cases transporting drill bits in the field, I picked this up. After riveting some aluminum angle dividers in it’s perfect. The latch closes tightly, seems sturdy enough. There was a barcode sticker that was a pain to get off, but a heat gun to loosen it and some denatured alcohol to take the adhesive off seemed to work. Would recommend.

Just right to replace my cheap plastic box for my 1/4” drive socket tool set..
