Utopian setting, but I'll create my own plan...
I really love the book. Its a great resource for future research I want to do in arts education, however as a critique I must say is that the school and students chosen are not an honest representation of the arts programming in this this country. I love that they chose a utopian set of teachers and students, but that still leaves me to see how this process/ belief system/philosophy will work in my setting--alternative education. Where in reality I have kids who hate art, sit on their phones, are angry at the world, have anger management issues, etc. etc. In some ways the book reminds me of PBIS--all the samples are of the students/communities that are "wanting" to participate. I guess I will just do my own research on the poor, disenfranchised communities that need the knowledge of the 8 habits of mind--because I think those elements are spot on with what we need as creative people--and what we do in our creative processes. I know that my students, who are the lowest of the low, can definitely benefit from the habits. I will have to create a plan that will support programs with no money, no support and few great teachers that have to run a program literally alone. Because I know there are great teachers, teaching artists and leaders out there, that would like to implement this thinking in their own programs but really do not know how to even start as they are overwhelmed with all the demands of their job.

Great research
This book presents exciting conclusions based on solid research. The information in it should be useful to those who want to show how important art education is, and it also is useful as a tool to shape an art curriculum. I used it as the core of a workshop I presented to art teachers on behalf of ArtAchieve.

If you are an art educator, you must read this
This is an excellent book - well researched about art education and studio practice. I refer to it a lot as an art specialist. Excellent resource for advocacy and what the arts teach our children. Not about what the arts bring to other subjects either. Just the arts. Recommend without reservation.

Teaching real artistic behavior
Can't wait to put some of these techniques to work. I have changed my entire curriculum this summer to incorporate many of these ideas.

Well-researched erudition. Badly written.
The content of this book is erudite, well-researched and insightful. However, I wish the authors had chosen to write it in slightly more accessible language. The use of contorted and complex phraseology often seems to have been used just to demonstrate the authors' command of language rather than clarity of communicating their ideas.
