Safe
Our Miniature Poodle loves bully sticks. But he does not ever want me to take them away when they get so short that he could choke on the last bit. This works better than I hoped. It holds the bully chew stick securely and our pup actually likes the new angle it provides for him to chew. I realized that he no longer has to hold the chew stick with both paws. He really likes carrying this thing around!

New model does not work
Unfortunately the new model bully stick holder does not work. I am putting a lot of detail into this review so that BowWow Labs can make corrections and sell a model that works.....after all how can you not like a company named BowWow Labs? This review has four pictures. Two pictures are of the old (blue) and new (orange) model bully stick holder. Two pictures are of the Bow Wow labs bully sticks that we used.....the stick size was selected according to BowWow Labs chart to match with the size of this bully stick holder.....we used the right bully sticks for this holder! The issue is not the bully sticks, the issue is the holder design.....read on.Problem #1: the height of the twist handle on the new model (orange) is shorter than the height of the twist handle on the old model (blue). You can clearly see this in the photo, both twist handles were twisted to maximum position. Both my wife and I had difficulty tightening the holder because the twist handle was so short . Neither of us have large hands. Please increase the length of the handle!Problem #2: It does not hold the bully stick securely. Once the new holder (orange) was fully secured on the bully stick, I tug on the bully stick and confirmed it was securely held. I gave it to our dog....and 2 minutes later the dog looks up at me like there is a problem. I look and the stick is completely out of the holder! I tighten it down again and the same thing happens. The next day my wife says the same thing happened to her and she doesn't want us to use the new one any more. I scoff despite my experience. How can that be? This is the new and improved holder. Well my wife is smarter than me because I use it the next day, make sure it is tight, and the stick is gone in two minutes because my dog didn't look up and tell me there was a problem. So we stopped using it. I can see the benefit of the new design (orange) having a v shaped bottom surface to trap the bully stick, but I think moving to a flat screw surface on the new model (orange) rather than the pointed screw surface on the old model (blue) is the problem. The flat surface screw increases the area which reduces the pressure holding the stick. If you use a pointed screw the contact area is tiny and the pressure holding the stick goes up by a factor of at least 100 times. I think the best design would be the V shaped bottom with a pointed screw.Problem #3: I wish the screw had another 1/8 to 1/4" of travel. That would let it hold some of the smaller sticks that sometimes come in the packages. What do I suggest you buy as a bully stick holder? We are returning the new model and will continue using our old model (blue). Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions on what to buy.......maybe you can find the old model on eBay.....but expect the prices to be high because they don't make those any more. Or you can just let your puppy chew on your hand.

Doesn’t secure the bully stick well enough
The whole reason I bought this was to make sure my dog was safe while eating bully sticks. However, it didn’t really help at all because my 15 lb dog was able to pull the bully sticks out no matter how tightly I secured it. I think this is a great idea but this didn’t work for us.****UPDATE****This company was very receptive to the feedback provided and gave excellent customer service. They were very informative and advised that this bully stick is made to be used safely with their brand bully sticks. So please be sure to read the full product information before buying this. They said that their bully sticks are hand sorted to make sure they’re the correct size to be used with this holder.

Great safety device - updated
Update - I’m knocking off a start because I have found that some of the smaller stocks don’t fit properly and fall out. The screw should close all the way, or more than it does. Of course, you should monitor your puppy while they chew, but this device is to give you some peace of mind. It’s rendered almost useless if you have to hold the meat stick yourself.Original review:I use this for bully sticks when my puppy is in the office with me and I can’t watch her constantly. I’ve never had an issue with a stick coming loose. This should prevent choking situations from arising, but at the moment, our pup is so small she really just chews the sticks vs eating them. This will prevent your puppy from chewing a stick down to a size that presents a choking hazard. She doesn’t chew the holder, but it feels very durable. I bought this with bully sticks at the same time and there was one that was too small for the holder to secure, so that one had to go. That was a pity since the sticks and holder are sized for each other.

Bow Wow Labs fixed the problem
I appreciated the fact that after my initial poor review this company contacted me to make it right. They sent me their new improved screw which instead of having a flat end it has a groove in it. This so far has proved to hold on to the bully sticks. They also were kind enough to send me a complimentary package of their own bully sticks which fit the holder and so far has been enjoyed by my puppy Liam. It's refreshing for a company to reach out and say can we try to make it right. Yes I could have returned it but felt I would give them a chance and so far happy with the response and the result.

Great for peace of mind
Our puppy swallowed the last bit of a bully stick when he was really little, he’s okay but it gave us a scare. These help alleviate and stress about giving them bully sticks, you don’t have to constantly be watching.

Love This Gadget
I generally don’t write reviews, let alone include pictures of the product, but this little gadget is simply awesome. Our puppy is 5 months old and in constant need of stimulation. She appointed me as her official bully stick holder, and being that she’s a slobbery mastiff, they get super soft and gross. Not to mention when they get small, I worry that she’ll choke. We bought this holder yesterday. It took a little bit for her to not chew on it rather than the bully, but today she got the hang of it and it’s been awesome. At first we had to experiment with how far down we positioned the bully, but now that she’s got the hang of it, we’re comfortable using it as it shows. It’s such a simple thing, but I’m so excited to have this in her toy box.
