Odoo Development Essentials: Fast Track Your Development Skills to Build Powerful Odoo Business Applications

The content is an excellent introduction to Odoo 8 that covers many basic and intermediate topics for which answers can not easily be found elsewhere, so five stars for the content. However, the index is worthless, first because it is incomplete, and second because it is inaccurate, so zero stars for the index. Many of the terms I wished to look up in the index were not present, and the terms that were present in the index consistently referred to the wrong sections of the book. In order to find particular terms, I had to scan the table of contents, guess which section would be the most likely to contain the desired information, and then re-read that section. If the index was accurate and reasonably complete, this would be a five star review.However, after several weeks, I find myself referring more often to the book than to Google, and believe the high quality of the content warrants revising my initial review from three to four stars, despite the index.I would buy it again, but directly from the publisher and bundled with a searchable PDF for a few dollars more.On an additional note, the front matter states that the eBook is available at a discount to purchasers of the physical book, but as of this review, multiple attempts to contact the publisher (Pakt Publishing) were not successful. If the eBook was available at a reasonable price point (and not another $23.99 for a searchable PDF) this would be a five star review.

This is a really excellent and much needed introduction to a powerful but poorly documented framework. It is easy for a beginner to understand and covers a wide range of tools using simple, clear examples. It doesn't fall into the trap that so many technical books do, of throwing in more advanced code to make the example work without explaining what it is and does. Nearly every example is thoroughly explained line by line.I've taken of one star because there are two huge problems with the book. One is the index. It obviously wasn't proofread and doesn't contain a single correct reference. It's completely unusable. Two is for the sections. On workflows. This is an important component of odoo development and the book basically says, "workflows exist, here's a short snippet of code completely out of context, how it works should be obvious." But it's not. These are just a couple blemishes on an otherwise solid tutorial, though.I would recommend the book not just because it's really the only thing available on the subject, but because it's a concise and competent introduction.

Daniel Reis intersperses basics on installing and running Odoo with practical examples on how to build an application (in this case, a task list system). Odoo has a steep initial learning curve. This book explains the initial parts well.I've gone through the entire book (only 182 pages) at least twice. Each time, more topics become clear and reinforced. I will probably go through 1-2 more times before using the book as a reference.Points to note:* Readers should be familiar with Linux concepts like file management, running scripts, etc.* This was written for Odoo 8. Odoo 9 is current. Expect a few differences between 8 and 9. Specifically, in the To Do application, Odoo's destination for the menu item has changed. Expect to figure a new place for the Menu Item action.Considering the price of Odoo (free for community edition, ~US$240/user/year for the Enterprise edition), and considering the hourly rates of consultants, this book is great value for a low price. At least one person in your organization should keep this book as a reference.

Odoo is a big ERP system. This books, so far, is one of the best and had helped me a lot. I'm a beginner in odoo. At the beginning the codes examples can be difficults to understand, but while you are reading and practicing, everything is getting sense :)

La curva di apprendimento di Odoo é davvero elevata, questo libro iuta a fare i primi passi e più o meno include un esempio su tutto quel che si può fare in odoo! La guida parte dallo sviluppo di un modulo semplice e poi crea nuovi moduli per integrare nuove funzionalità in quello base! Personalmente è stata molto utile per avere chiari concetti di base! Rimane il fatto che per un ottima comprensione di odoo bisogna sperimentare tanto!

Das Werk ersetzt sicher kein intensives Studium der Quelltexte und der offiziellen Doku, doch für den Einstieg in die Materie ist es mehr als ausreichend. Die Beispiele sind nachvollziehbar und gut aufbereitet und bieten so einen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten, insbesondere bei der Entwicklung eigener Apps. Für mich als Einsteiger in die Odoo-Entwicklung hat sich das Buch definitv gelohnt!

This is by far THE BEST SOURCE if you want to learn Odoo. Do not look any further. Follow the book step by step - every word is important. Great book and a fantastic effort by the writers and the team.I also purchased the Odoo Cookbook. Very pleased with that also.

Ottimo libro di Daniel Reis, il libro è di fatto una traccia completa e ripercorre tutto ODOO. Deve essere visto come una buona base per chi volesse iniziare a programmare ma anche un modo di riordinare le idee al programmatore che, di fatto, non ha visto tutti gli aspetti dell'ERP.
