Buy Jazz Keyboard Harmony: A Practical Voicing Method for All Musicians: A Practical Voicing Method for All Musicians, Book & Online Audio Reprint by DeGreg, Phil (ISBN: 9781562240691) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Brilliant Piano Method - This is a superb resource for learning piano jazz voicings. To play jazz piano you need to know not just chord structures but how to voice those chords and combine them into a smoothly flowing whole. This book supplies that knowledge, and a wealth of material to study and practise - and you do need to practise hard and regularly to get the most out of it. I'm a very mediocre pianist, but after only a couple of weeks, I find that, in playing through pieces I'm learning, the chords are beginning to fall naturally under my fingers - it's magic! If, like me, you have a fair bit of pianistic ability and theoretical knowledge but have trouble putting it into practice, this is the book for you. Review: Excellent! - Perfect book for starters. Lots of practising routines on almost every kind of voicings. It helps a lot in memorizing and finding hands position on the keyboard. Thank you Mr. Degreg!!

Five Stars
Great addition to the great Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine, less theory and more hands-on!

Informative book.
Nothing to dislike about this book, I didn't think it offered anymore information than existing volumes but would be ideal if you're starting out on a musical instrument. A useful purchase.

Definitely has some good stuff in it
I've been playing the piano for years and this book would probably be quite good if you had the patience to go through all the exercises!. It says at the beginning that it's a book for people who have little or no piano facility but I think it would be way too advanced for a beginner - or at least you would have to be a fairly gifted beginner. It teaches the more traditional 'harmonic' type of jazz as opposed to modal jazz which I think is good because it's not as confusing as some other books which switch between different styles and there are some nice piano voicings to learn.

I won't be able to add much to what has already been said about this book, it is simply excellent. What I can say though is that I was very pleased to see the copy I received was spiral bound which is really a must when dealing with partitions (the copy owned by my teacher has a standard binding which make it harder to use). The included CD is also a big plus for someone who isn't an advanced player. Big grin on my face, now it's time to transfer the knowledge from the book into my brain :)

This book is pure gold for jazz piano voicings. It is focused purely on harmony, not rhythm or melody or anything else. It is methodically organized and gets straight to the point. It ignores "why" and goes straight to "how to", but in my opinion it is so well organized that it ends up explaining the "why" too, just non-verbally. From a practical standpoint, this is the most useful jazz piano book I've ever bought, even more than the Mark Levine classic, because it is so clear and concise and methodical. UPDATE: after owning this book for over a year, I appreciate it even more. The way it is so methodically laid out, starting from the simplest shell voicings and gradually building up, organized around the same set of standard progressions in all keys, it is pedagogically unparalleled among any jazz books I've seen. Seeing the clear lineage of how complex voicings are built has helped me to deeply understand and remember these voicings. Naturally, since this only covers jazz harmonic voicings, it does not discuss melodic lines at all. Therefore I view this as a foundation primarily for comping, which is I think the most solid place to start. A solid set of chords under your fingers is the skeleton around which melodic lines can later be constructed. This is therefore my top recommendation as a foundation for any jazz pianist.
