Groovy bit of Kit
This started out as a simple project for me and I cant find anything negative to say about the Pi3 for what I'm using it for. I got it simply to use as a dedicated media player for streaming entertainment as I have an old CRT TV (Does require A HDMI to AV converter acquired on Amazon) that I am finding very hard to part with. In my opinion it has a better picture when streaming older non HD as to me it appears the bitmap is not as sharp in the image so lower resolution looks better, and with failing eye sight what more could I ask.I also have an Android 5.1 lollipop quad core TV box that I tried first but unlike the Pi3, it tends to freeze up when you ask to much of it when streaming, ie changing channels and it isn't choka with bloatware!! (When I buy a watch its to tell the time) Now days you can't even fart without a google sign flying out your butt!! The Pi3 is not much different to the Pi2 apart from the processor I think. Some might say that it could have been upgraded with more ram but that for the professional IT folk. However for my purpose it works a treat and I have no issues with it. The main and most important thing to me that it was made locally.I also added a couple of heat sinks that would have been nice if included, maybe a kit with and a kit without. (Linux for life)It was shipped with a Noobs sd card so assembly and getting connected with openelec was a doddle, I think I had it up and running in about 20 minutes that's Including having the OS installed. For a technology challenged old man I think that is pretty awesome, even if i say so myself. In short I think this is a very neat piece of kit from the Pi Hut and would recommend it to anyone.

Packs an outrageous punch for its power consumption
This device is beyond capable. I initially loaded it up under the OpenELEC build on the SDHC card. It was up and running within a couple of minutes of first turning it on.Previously, the best inexpensive streaming device I'd found was the FireTV Box (not the stick) from Amazon. That's a very capable piece of kit, but it choked on some of my tougher video files. The OpenELEC Kodi build on the Raspberry Pi 3 didn't just play them perfectly, but the CPU never struggled at all, staying below 15% through entire films ... All on the new built-in WiFi.It had so much power untouched that I just couldn't leave it at that. I reloaded Raspbian onto the SDHC card (which is extremely easy with the card provided, you just hold down a shift key during boot and tell it to load the other OS), and manually installed Kodi. One tiny gotcha is that I had to reserve 128M of RAM for video performance to get it to play HD video. Some videos may require 256M.Once I had that running, I threw Spigot on it to run a Minecraft server in the background. The toughest part here was getting a good systemd script to run it as a daemon at boot. When I take more than half the RAM for the Minecraft server, the Kodi Media Centre STILL easily plays my most difficult videos with no stutters or skips ... Though the CPU cores do occasionally peg at 100%. While there's no media centre impact, I have to be honest that the MC server performance does take a bit of a hit when exploring and generating new chunks. It's amazingly powerful for such a tiny power miser.

A nice kit supplied by PiHut and very easy to put together
A nice kit supplied by PiHut and very easy to put together. Insert the SD card into the Pi, put the Pi in the case, plug in your HDMI lead, plug in any USB keyboard (not supplied) and power it up with the power supply (supplied) It prompts you for a choice of two operating systems. I choose OPENELEC because all I wanted was KODI. After a few minutes you are up and running with Kodi and can start to add your favourite Add-Ons.Note that it has in-build Wi-Fi and you should set this up next within Kodi. I set it up on the initial boot up screen and it didn't retain the settings. No problem once done in Kodi.I would also recommend setting up your Time Server (NTP) within Kodi (OPENELEC Settings) as the Pi doesn't seem to remember the date/time and it needs to update on start-up. I'm not sure of the detail here as I've not looked into it to any great level but the above worked for me.Responsiveness in Kodi is very good. Superb in fact and compares favourably to a PC driven Kodi.

SD card issue spoiled the bundle...
On first receiving the kit, the Class 6 card wouldn't install, so I couldn't use the Pi 3. I was sent a replacement Class 10 card, as it was a software issue, and the issue is resolved.Paying a premium for a 'ready to run' system, which claims to have software 'installed', proved to be a disappointing learning experience. That said, I can't fault the package contents, although some instructions would be nice; an A4 with basic info and useful links would suffice.N.B. The Pi 3's green SD card activity light stays on after using 'shutdown', with the current Raspbian OS (it goes off on previous Pis, or using the alternative 'halt' command).
