For when you MUST know that something is not getting electricity.
We have a freezer in the garage that lost power due to a tripped GFCI outlet. Nobody knew it tripped, and as it turned out we were in and out of the garage without noticing for a couple days. Then one day I saw a puddle at the front of the freezer and discovered the power was off and everything started melting/defrosting.This is designed to let you know with a loud alarm when the power goes out. Now, it wont help you if nobody is home and the battery runs out before you get back, but if you put this somewhere you can see, there is also a green light on the front showing power is on, so the absence of that will tell you its off.Not long after buying this, it happened again. I had plugged our RV into a garage outlet and about 24 hours later something caused the GFCI to trip. This time it sounded off like a police car. My first thought was What the Hell Is That! but I quickly realized and then reset the GFCI. So yes, you do need this especially if you have a freezer!

Works very well
Has already saved our freezer contents after a neighborhood power surge. Alarm volume could be louder and easier to control but not a deal breaker. Would buy again.

Don’t try to return this after plugging in!
Tried to change the alarm tone, but didn’t work. Sending back, I packaged them up in original boxes and sealed the box. Then the alarm went off in the sealed box! Had to open the box and press the cancel button. Same thing happened again to the other one, and then again to the first one!. To prevent UPS from having a heart attack, I unscrewed the back cover of the units and disconnected the batteries before sending them back. Probably not a problem unless you plugged them in to test them…
