Cheaper option
Bought instead of the backbone so not sure exactly how that compares. I have a pixel 8 and it fits okay but due to the camera bump does side slightly proud on one side. Also I need to take it out the phone case which is about annoying but still a good product.

Works very well, but a bit fiddly to get your phone in and out
(All comments in this review are in relation to using the device with a Pixel 7 Pro.)I've been experimenting a bit using my phone for cloud gaming (Amazon Luna, Microsoft Game Pass, etc.) as well as some native games, but trying to use touch controls was a nightmare, and the other solution of pairing a bluetooth XBox controller - while workable - was a bit of a faff and also quite a bulky solution. So I gave this a go, and so far it's been great. The sticks are really nice and responsive, and the buttons are solid and clicky, giving enough travel and feedback to let you really feel that you've pressed something. The d-pad is fine - it's not going to win any awards, but it's not terrible either. It also has USB-C passthrough charging, so you can keep your phone juiced up while gaming if you need to.The only drawbacks are that (a) it doesn't have an "XBox" button, or the ability to remap one to one of the two programmable buttons, which is a shame as it limits certain aspects of cloud gaming on the XBox platform, and (b) it is VERY fiddly to get the phone in and out. The back width is controlled by quite stiff springs, and so you have to try and hold it open with one hand while slotting the (slightly worryingly fragile feeling) USB-C connecter into your phone before letting it close. It's fine, but there's a bit of a knack to it, and I can see it being something that leads to disaster if you're not careful. This will probably be better for folk with smaller phones, but mine is on the big/chonky side. (Also you can't use it with a phone case on, so if you have a case you'll have to take that off each time, which is a bit of a faff too.)It also comes with a rubber bumper in the box which is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions, but attaches onto the left hand side of the device to provide a bit of cushioning for the top of your phone. There's a charging cable hidden in a little compartment which is fixed to the lid of the box too - don't miss that! All in all, it's a good little device, and does what it needs to do. I just worry a little about the longevity of it because that USB-C connector feels scary to attach/detach.

Be prepared to send it straight back.
I never leave reviews, but really want to warn others before wasting their money. I did see a good few negative reviews, but was prepared to give it a go, as there are loads of positive ones. The first controller was defective and would not even start up. It also seemed to be leaking battery fluid. I put this down to bad luck, requested a return and purchased a replacement. The replacement started up and looked promising until I tried to play a game. The left side of the controller was unresponsive and I tried for hours to troubleshoot, reset or recalibrate. No luck there so tried a hardware tester and it confirmed that most of the left side was faulty, so likely a manufacturing issue. This leaves my character spinning in circles. It’s a real shame, as the device is attractive, comfortable and lightweight. If you have one that works I imagine it’s great, but I won’t be trying a third as that seems like madness.I’ll be buying the Backbone controller instead.

It's OK for the price
The back snapped almost instantly out of the box, the USB-C passthrough does not support PPS charging meaning the phone gets ridiculously hot and the plastic just feels super, super cheap. It does work in emulators, but the game compatibility is very hit or miss. This does NOT work with CoD: Mobile on Android.

Good but it’s now broken
Been using it sparingly for 3 months. Ergonomically it’s fine to use, it’s comfortable in the hand. It feels good. But unfortunately I was using it today for an hour, took it off the phone placed it on the side and a few hours late came back to use it again, but now the left analogue stick won’t recognise the motion down or up. It recognises left and right. I took it apart to have a look and see if something was loose or if a pin was bent, but all looked fine. Was only £30 but I would have expected it to last a lot longer considering how little use it’s had

No configuration or 3rd party app needed
Great ergonomics. Use it with my samsung fold 5. No additional setup or configuration required. Works with all games and emulators I throw at it. Definitely recommended
