In fact, the ring light is one of my favorite designs given the soft, reasonably shadow-less light it can provide. And I say this especially if you only have one light. And personally when I started video reviews, I used one large 19-inch ring light. It provided both main and fill lighting just by light bouncing off the recording room’s white walls and ceiling. So for me, there are features I look for in a ring light and then there’s overall value based on price and those features, or the absence of some features.SIZE OF LIGHT… Well, as stated, and in my opinion, if you want a ring light, I would recommend 16-inch and larger; preferably a 19-inch light like this one.SMD LED TECHNOLOGY… The letters ‘SMD’ stand for ‘surface mount technology.’ And yes, that’s a good thing as SMD lighting offers stronger lighting and greater power efficiency.BRIGHTNESS & CONTROL OF BRIGHTNESS… One thing that did stand out was the ‘rather brilliant and high level’ of the LED’s light-output. I found it, at brightest, to make it hard to read the control-display, which is on the front of the light, not on the backside.NOT STEPLESS COLOR TEMPERATURE CONTROL… With this model ring light, I found that it ‘steps’ through the Kelvin temperature range in broad strokes. I didn’t see any ‘stepless’ color temperature control. When I’m working in an ambient light environment, it’s helpful to have that ability to ‘mix-to-correct’ lighting temperature. And just in general, finding a ‘best temp’ is certainly an advantage.NOT BATTERY POWERED… This is an AC powered light. It doesn’t have provisions for direct battery power via, for example, NP-F series batteries. With only 110-220 vac powered, I will sometimes use a battery-inverter combo to get remote outlet power to my outdoor lighting. But ‘battery option’ is a feature I prefer.STURDY TRIPOD… Firstly, my comments on this tripod reflect the same opinion I have on most ‘kit-lighing tripods.’ They’re all far from ‘sturdy.’ I weighed the tripod ‘in its box’ and it was just under 2-pounds. It’s a thin-gage aluminum, powder coated matte black crinkle finish. My recommendation is that you make a small sandbag to tie to the bottom of the tripod. This will help stabilize the base.THE THREE GOOSENECK PHONE HOLDERS… I’ve not been able to mount, successfully, three recording devices all in a row on even a 19-inch light. And I say that when I’m recording in a landscape orientation on any one of the holders. I also don’t like ‘gooseneck’ supports as they can jiggle from the slightest bump. I use weighty ball-mounts that allows me to make lockable adjustments.2 USB CHARGING PORTS… This is a very useful option as you can, with some devices, charge while using video and audio recording devices that are on or near the tripod.WARRANTIES… On the vendor page the seller includes their 1-year ‘replace or refund warranty.’ Also on the vendor page are two warranty options; a 2-year warranty @ $9.99 and a 3-year warranty @ $13.49. My strong suggestion with product is to also purchase the 3-year plan.While not the most 'feature packed' ring light, at its current price point and given it's a kit that could certainly be your 'first and only', I'd say it's a fair value.

This light is awesome!! Lots of light settings , very sturdy , well made. Easy to work & just great for filming, photos etc. highly recommend

This looked more complicated to put together than it really was. The instructions and photos are easy to follow. Other reviewers are obviously more sophisticated and experienced photographers or bloggers, but I wanted the ring light to help me with zoom calls I lead for a group.With better lighting and clarity, I'm going to experiment with video recording the conversations that will hopefully become content for a book.Just setting up the ring light and my zoom camera today I could tell that the quality of the video call was greatly improved. I also experimented with having the phone attached to the ring and the computer closer; both devices can be on the call at the same time.This review's bottom line message is to those who are just starting as creatives or using the ring light in a different application ~ don't be intimidated and afraid to experiment. The remote control for the phone camera was easy to pair and very responsive. I didn't put batteries in the remote for the light yet, but I'm sure it will be as responsive. With the light right in front of me I could make adjustments right from the dashboard.Even without knowing the implications of the numbers, it was easy to move through choices to find a color and level of brightness that really worked.I appreciate good tools, the ease of use, good documentation, the compact size and carry bag. I also appreciate the fact that the ring light set up is useful to me now as a beginner and that there is plenty of bandwidth to take advantage of as I grow. You don't have to be an expert from the jump, but it looks like from other reviews that there is plenty of horsepower here for people who have lots of experience with similar tools and applications.So glad I had a chance to order this to expand my skills while pursuing a long-held creative dream to finally get the book written... video to book and who knows what from there.
