Excellent
I have used a few different breast pumps- a horrible Nuk one that went straight back to the shop, a Medela hand pump & an electric Medela one rented from the hospital. The Ardo Calypso is miles better than all of them. It is MUCH quieter than either the Nuk or electric Medela. You can adjust both the suction strength and frequency, with 8 levels for each- finding the combination that works best for you. It has good range of suction strengths- the lowest setting is very gentle going up to a very strong pull. The progression through the 8 settings is smooth (so it isn't like you have 7 weak settings and then jump to a strong one or vise versa). Level 3 gives a stronger setting than the Nuk did at it's highest setting. I generally use level 2 for letdown and 4 or 5 for the remainder. What I really like about this pump is that it comes with a number of different breast shell sizes. I cause myself a fair amount of pain and wasted a lot of time and money with the Medela pump trying to find what worked for me. Since this one comes with several sizes, you can try them all. There are also even bigger/smaller sizes available from Ardo's website. I actually ended up having to order the 22mm (their smallest size) for day to day use, but I found the 31mm (largest size included with pump) to be useful when clearing a blocked duct. Again- it is really nice to have so many options.Ardo's customer service is amazing. I contacted them when I was struggling to find the perfect combination that produced pain free pumping with a decent yield. They emailed me back within 24 hours with a few suggestions and recommended I phone if I was still having issues, which I did. When I phoned they were really helpful, patiently asking questions and offering suggestions. And I must say their advice worked because I can finally pump comfortably and actually empty my breasts (which I never could do with either the hand or electric Medela pumps). The Ardo Calypso is a closed system so it is more hygienic than some of the other options (Medela Swing, for example). It is easy to put together and doesn't have as many little pieces that might get lost in the sink/dishwasher (the Medelas all have this really annoying little white flap that is so easy to lose).I haven't yet tried the pump using batteries so can't comment on how it works with them.

Wish I had this for my first child!
I purchased this pump for our second child, and am pumping exclusively. Previous to this I was using two single pumps by another popular manufacturer, that were very loud and fairly poor by comparison. We researched this pump and purchased it based upon the positive reviews. We called the company before ordering (we were desperate as the old pumps were wearing out) and found members of staff extremely helpful and supportive. We placed the order on the Friday evening, and the item arrived on the Tuesday (had we placed it before 2 we would have had it on the Monday). The calypso has an advantage over the previous pumps as it comes with different sized breast shells- may take trying a couple before finding the correct fit but the difference was very noticeable- expressing was more comfortable and there was less soreness. The pump is also a closed system - I got upset with precious milk going into the air tubes on the previous pumps quite often! The pump has got a little louder, but quiet enough my husband does not know it it on sitting next to me. bearing in mind it is used 8-10 times daily! I can now make phones calls whilst expressing- something that was impossible before! With this pump I am still continuing to provide 100% breast milk for my 7 month old.The settings are great as you can set a vacuum independently from the cycles- the previous pump was on/off 1,2,3 and higher settings were very uncomfortable as fine tuning was not possible.A tiny bottle brush comes with the calypso which is brilliant as there are tiny places that would be impossible to get to otherwise.

Terrible experience terrible product design
Terrible experience terrible product design. The calypso worked for 3 months and than just died on me. Purchase this item 3 months ago and although I did read the bad reviews before buying the product I decided to buy anyway on the weight of all the positive reviews.Using two suction cups at the same time is very awkward and trying to changing setting is near impossible whilst expressing. Design flaw 1, You can't reasonable amend any bras to allow ease of use because the units come as one piece unlike the Medela :- Design flaw 2.As mentioned the product stopped working after 3 months and as my baby was born premature and was hospital bound, I needed to express in the evenings with out fail to ensure he got the goodness he needed to grow. So when the product stopped working I had pay for another pump while Ardo looked into the fault. I paid for postage of the Aldo pump back to there offices and had to buy a small handheld pump for the interim. Ardo refused to replace the product claiming I had some how got milk it the pump, which there warranty did not cover. I don't understand how this could have happened as I have been used the product as directed Aldo.I have then had to buy yet another pump. I will now be buying the Medela, which is what all the hospitals actually use ( and considerable better in comparison) and really wish I did to start with as it would have saved me about £200. To add insult to injury the customer service manager was to busy to talk to me or call me back. Currently looking to get touch with consumer direct and complaining to trading standards. It's not fair for an expensive product to stop due to manufacturing design issue and its all too inconvenient for the supplier to refuse to replace or give refund on a faulty product. My advice is buy product that you are confident will last otherwise you'll have waste money in the long run.
