Good Value
This is indeed good value, $12 for 12 makeup brushes. Each brush has its name/use stamped on the handle and each clear plastic pack comes with description on usage, great for newbies. Read through packagings, they are made in China but couldn't find the material so I guessed synthetic. I washed all of them before use with a brush cleaner and dried them lying flat. 10 brushes (the denser, short and firm ones eg foundation brush, defining eye brush, shadow brush, blending brush etc) retained their shape and no shedding and felt really soft on the face. But the total face brush shed some, and the shape is not exactly a nice round dome, in fact its fairly uneven, like some1 snipped at it with a scissors. I took a pic but regret unable to load it. The bronzing brush, shed a few strands but the brush head flared out. I slipped them both into the brush guards (available from Amazon) and after 24 hrs, brushes kinda 'close' back a bit. Both brushes felt mildly scratchy on the face unlike the others in the set. Hope they won't shed again by the next wash. In general, still very good value, for the remaining 10 brushes. Better than some drug store/generic brushes.

These are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've used E.L.F. cosmetics for years now and they are not only cheap but decently good! I had bought some mineral makeup and so had my daughter. She decided she needed brushes, so I gave her mine. :( I thought I'd just go back to the "naked mineral" site and buy more but was sticker-shocked, so looked elsewhere. E.L.F. has excellent brushes, so thought I'd get them there. I was waiting on a deal in my inbox from them, when lo and behold, I looked on AMAZON and found a BETTER price! Now...I believe these are last year's model--by that I mean, the new ones on e.l.f.'s website are a different style, a different color handle, etc, but the same brushes...so big deal. They would STILL be an excellent deal had I ordered them from e.l.f. but an even better one here on Amazon, with my prime shipping being free. $1 per brush? Come on! That's a steal. I put them in a beautiful Asian blue-and-white vase I got for $1 at the thrift store, and filled it a bit over halfway with rice to give my brushes something to stand up in. I put the brushes, bristle-side up, into it and it sits on my dresser. It's a great deal, this, and I am really happy with my purchase. The brushes are every bit as good and useful as the more expensive ones from "naked minerals."

Decent brushes for the price
That saying "you get what you pay for!" well in this case its very true. I purchased these back in August 2013, I am not a makeup artist but I do apply make up every day so these brushes are used every day. I got them home and like others have said they did have a really bad smell to them and after washing it did intensify the smell but after a few uses the smell was gone. With that said overall I do like them and they do work and I would say get them if you need brushes and have to stick to a budget. The big face brush head has come apart from the handle and i've had to glue it back together, it doesn't hold its shape very well at all. after about two weeks of use it looks like a fan brush. Its not very soft and is a little scratch on your face. However the eye brushes are great. If anything I would avoid the face brushes (blush, foundation powder) and just get the eye brushes. I also wanted to mention that I do use the conceler brush as an eyeliner brush with my gel eyeliner and it works really well - the lip brushes I have used at eye brushes as well not for their intended purpose but I do like them and think they are worth the $1.00 they are asking for them. I really hope this has helped in deciding on this product. As a side note if you just want to buy a few of these brushes they do sell them at Christmas Tree Shops (CTS) for $1.00 and you avoid shipping charges and get only what you want. My favorite is the fluffy eye blending brush - I did pick up another at CTS the last time i was there.
