It really works
Yes, it really works. I recieved the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ antenna today and in a couple of seconds had it working. My signal strength went from "very low" to "very good". The only problem is the cord is a little short which I already knew from another reviewer. Thanks. I put the Antenna on my desk and now I can even get some of my neighbors networks. Great solution for a weak signal. Thanks. I am using this connected to a D-Link DWA-552 desktop adapter and I am getting my signal from a D-Link DIR-655. Works great.

Marginally better
I recently moved my router, which necessitated changing one of my Windows 7 64-bit desktops from hardwired to wireless. The desktop now sits in the basement on the opposite side of the house as router, which is on the first floor. While there isn't much vertical distance between the two, there are some obstructions (e.g. duct work, etc.).I installed a D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme N PCI Express Desktop Adapter and was showing three bars in the connection status and a RSSI (Received signal strength indication) of 68 with inSSIDer. I also have a D-Link DIR-655 Extreme-N Gigabit Wireless Router .I purchased the ANT24-0230 and decided to use it on the wireless adapter, rather than trying to extend the range of the router. After reading the review I knew that my results might not be all that spectacular, but was thinking any improvement was better than none.I did get an improvement, but I wouldn't call it spectacular. The three bars jumped to four and the RSSI dropped to 58. An improvement for sure and not one that I am unhappy with, but I'm glad that I chose to buy it used and at a lower price than the listed retail.By way of comparison; I have a High-Gain USB Wireless N 300Mbps 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Network Adaptor With 2 High Gain 5dBi Dipole Antenna - Improving 6X Signal Reception and 3x Speed on a XP desktop, which resides on the second floor. When the router was in the basement, I was getting five bars and a RSSI of 28. With the router on the first floor, the RSSI dropped to 18.

Not a great Antenna
Purchased to replace DIR 655 antenna. My expectation was that this antenna would give me at least as much signal strength as my original DIR 655 and with the ease of hiding/placing DIR 655 on my console. I was disappointed. Although ANT24 gives the flexibility to place the router in a convenient place, the ANT24 gave me "lower" signal strength as compared to that from my original DIR 655 antenna.ANT24-0230 worked fine (100 % signal) when I was within 5 feet from the antenna and in the open room (no concrete walls between the laptop and the antenna). When I moved my laptop to one of the bedrooms 20 feet far from ANT24-0230, the signal dropped significantly (15% drop) as compared to the signal from DIR 655 original antenna.I finally packed my ANT24 and replaced with the original router antenna. If hiding/ placement of router is prime importance and a 10-15% signal drop doesn't bother you, then this antenna might be the one you are looking for. In my case signal strength was important so I am giving a 2 star rating.

Incremental improvement
When assessing the effectiveness of an indoor antenna like the Xtreme N 2.4 Ghz antenna, it is important to remember that range and bandwidth of a wireless connection depends on many factors, including the number of obstacles, the actual location of reception, and the wireless card itself. In my house, there are many walls and doors separating the dir-655 D-Link router and my laptop. The distance between the two is about 80 feet, hardly a short distance.I gained one bar (from very low to low) and doubled the speed (from 6.5 Mbps to 13 Mbps+) with an ASUS Eee 1000 netbook that has a built-in 802.11n card. In the same position, a regular Dell Latitude laptop with a built-in 802.11g card gave me two bars (same as the ASUS) and 54 Mbps. I suspect that the ASUS wireless card has a rather limited range. So after spending considerable with antenna orientation, there is some improvement with the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna in that particular position (where I sit).I should note that if I move to a slightly different position in the room, I receive a good signal (3 bars+) with a much higher bandwidth. So my sitting location is obviously not ideal for wi-fi reception. With two bars, I am still able to surf without too much trouble (i.e., interruptions).I should add that I tested the Hawking HiGain Directional Corner Antenna, indoor, 15dBi - HAI15SC with the dir-655 router (I was told by the manufacturer that it should work with an N router), but that antenna was less effective than the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna. The bottom line is: Do not expect too much from this antenna. It can help you improve your signal strength, but suddently you are not going to go from one bar to five bars.

Waste of money
I added this to a D-Link 625 in hopes of boosting the signal. It was recommended for my model router. My "bars" went from 3 or 4 (very good to excellent) to 1 to 2 (very low to low...and sometimes no signal at all!)I moved it all over the place and it stayed at a very low level. The antenna that came with the router was much better. I am returning it.

Nothing spectacular
It boosts my signal but in a very linear fashion. This antenna doesnt create an umbrella effect like i imagined... it's more of a wheel effect. For example, my signals East and West of the device have improved dramatically and my signal directly under the router in the basement has improved ten fold. But the signals North and South of the antenna are exactly the same with my normal router. This could be caused by some odd interference with other 2.4ghz devices in the home... such as my wireless headphones and our cordless home phone...Most testing to come.

Great
Does what it needs to do. Can have the router in a unit and have the antenna extend outside the unit.
