ChromiumTech R53 Mini alloy front strut brace review.Having decided that my car will be used as a track day car as well as daily driver, I decided that one of the upgrades I wanted to carry out was to fit a front strut brace. Having looked around I originally thought that pretty much "any old" strut brace will do its job, and looked around for a cheap one , I then looked again & decided that maybe, just maybe I could be wrong!Having discounted various cast/machined alloy strut braces due to cost I settled on the Chromiumtech front strut brace as being the best balance of cost, looks & functionality for me, and duly ordered it.The guys at Chromiumtech were very helpful and the very next day it arrived, great service again guys, thanks for your help.The job itself couldn't be easier to do. With the car on the floor as normal, simply undo the three strut top nuts on each strut, dismantle the brace, drop the top mounts on, part do up the nuts, put the rest of it together and then do everything up tight, under 10 minutes job-done.As I have swapped to coilovers also, the old issue of mushrooming of the top mount surround will now be truly banished as the strut brace mounts & strut tops are now perfectly aligned & stronger than ever.The quality of the Chromiumtech strut-brace is exemplary, the alloy is top quality and nice & weighty due to the heavy gauge metal in use, it is also finished in a very smart anodised black finish with the Mini name picked out in yellow. To the touch, this top quality strut brace from Chromiumtech has a nice finish & looks great.An additional bonus of the Chromiumtech strut brace over many others is the fact that when bolted in place it is completely solid, none of the usual el-cheapo hinged bolt mounts at each end that lots of others have.The main advantage of a strut brace such as the Chromiumtech brace is that under hard cornering the chassis is stiffer at the top of the suspension struts & therefore resists the tendency of the strut towers to want to flex inwards. The strut brace will keep them where they should be maintaining the front suspension geometry & therefore enhancing cornering & reducing tyre wear.Due to the extreme stiffness of the ladder type construction of the Chromiumtech brace and the solid rather than hinged ends of the mounts the additional stiffness afforded the suspension & chassis will DEFINITELY be noticeable on track.I am now a true convert, and in answer to my first point, no not just any old strut brace is going to be up to the task.To sum up then.Would I recommend the Chromiumtech alloy front strut brace for the R53 Mini? Absolutely 100% yes I wouldIs the installation of this a DIY-able job at home? With a metric set of Allen keys & socket set, yes, it is a 5 - 10 minute job.Will the Chromiumtech front strut brace do what it is designed to do? Absolutely 100% yes it will.Is the installation of the Chromiumtech strut brace worth doing? Visually the upgrade is stunning, dynamically the effect will be very noticeable when on track.If you are looking for a top quality front strut brace should you buy the Chromiumtech brace? Absolutely, you should, you won't regret it.
