Electrical Design of Commercial and Industrial Buildings Student Edition

The information contained in this book is comprehensive yet easily understood. Presented in the form of a building project each chapter steps the student through the process of electrical design for a commercial/industrial building. The book is written is a way that both the future electrician and the engineer can both understand. The book comes with hardcopies of the building plans and .dxf files on the companion CD allowing the student the choice of either designing with pencil, computer or both. The project although very comprehensive can be tailored to specific class objectives.I had the privilege of having Mr. Hauck as an instructor at a nearby community college and found his lectures, that closely follow the material in this book, were the best presented by any instructor there. I believe that I learned more from the two semesters with Mr. Hauck than I did with all the other classes that I took towards my degree in Electrical Technology.

To the point and plain to understand, great for me as a technical designer. A more detailed book would have confused me and I would have put it down. This book is complete and provided me the initial knowledge to start my new job as an electrical cad operator/designer position. 2017June14 HVB

Okay, I confess I'm a professional electrical engineer, so maybe this book is not meant for me, but I am disappointed that it has extremely limited and basic content. Having bought a previous book - Electrical Design Guide for Commercial Buildings (by William H. Clark) - many years ago, when I had only just started my engineering career, I am in a good position to compare both books. In my opinion, the older book by William Clark (1998 copyright) is much more useful than this one, even without adjusting for time of publication. I may have considered scoring it higher if it was only advertized as a basic reference material for technical education. However, it is referred to as "an enduring reference book for students and professionals." William Clark's older publication will fit that description; this one, not so much.As if its limited content were not bad enough, answers to end-of-chapter questions are advertised as being included in an "Instructor's ToolKit CD-ROM". Unfortunately, you don't get this CD-ROM with the book. A "Student Resource CD-ROM" is included instead which is said, in the author's words, to "provide students with valuable resources to complete their own electrical design projects." However, these "valuable" resources are lacking in any real value, as one can get much richer content for free from contractors' and manufacturers' websites.This book by John Hauk is waaay overpriced!

At last, a textbook that is easy to read and understand. I'm an electrical major at a local college. The book was used in a class that I took. The author did a great job at putting it in a simple language that is easily understood. The book takes the student by the hand, and shows him/her the step by step procedure to design a commercial/Industrial building. The book made the class very enjoyable. Hats off to the author, he did a great job.

It's okay book, but doesn't worth it to that price

I'm a professional engineer but most of my experience is in the process control and automation industry. I had to perform an electrical and control systems design for a customer and this book helped me by providing logical steps to build a complete electrical design of a facility. It references NEC 2008, so along with it, you feel confident that your design will comply with NEC. It is simple, easy to follow. It covers all major areas of an electrical design and provides sample calculations, drawings, etc.

I just received this today in the mail. Solid instructions and practical knowledge of step-by-step for electrical design for new engineering consultants. Good textbook type layout with learning objectives, concise summary, and review questions. I haven't looked at the CD-ROM yet.Would be great if the author has a website/forum for question/answers. Good practical book to have in an engineer's collection.Quite disappointed with the quality of the book and paper itself. The prints feel like photocopy prints or old newspapers. I fear that I might rub the ink off.. Reminded me of super old text books that used to be printed this way. For that I'm knocking off a star for the quality/value.

This book is packed with NEC reference for up to code standards. It comes with full 'E' size plan layouts of the floor plan, lighting plan with T-grid and one line diagram for power distribution. These plans are also available on a CD also included with the book. This book is designed and written for the purpose of a step by step walk through to designing the electrical outlets, lighting and machine equipment in this industrial/commercial building. Excellent source of information for electrical majors needing a project.
