This has been a valuable learning opportunity. I'm not that 'up' on physics or optometry...This item is well made, lightweight, handy, and versatile being able to sit in a stand or use by handle. It is freeing to just pick up a 'standard' paperback book and read it under the stand - of course for a broadsheet then you'd use it by the stem-handle. I wasn't keen on the sort of 'ripple' when looking through the 'glass' which is a synthetic material - if it was glass then I'd expect it to be a much more expensive item, so I think that is fair and they aren't called 'magnifying plastics'...What I learned is that I wear 1.5x ready readers which is actually the same as my prescription. I wear 3x for when I (file/apply/maintain/paint) my acrylic nails so I can see tiny details. This magnifying glass is of course 2.5x - as stated. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until now. Using the magnifying glass to read a book is too strong, and to do my nails is too weak. I can wear my 1.5x specs and use this magnifying glass to do my nails but it's still not quite right. I think the only way around it is to buy a magnifying glass that is the same strength as your needs. I did try moving the glass to different focal lengths and also moving my hand to different lengths (placement) too, but no, I can't get it right for my specific prescription.

I bought this for my elderly brother who has failing eyesight. He thought it was very useful as he could use both hands to hold something he had to work on whilst looking through the magnifying part. He also Found it very useful when trying to read instructions on packets. Would highly recommend this item
