Unreliable freezes and drops connections every 5 minutes
Terrible connection issues. Do not buy this product. It will play for a little bit of time, then drop connection and intermittently fail. The unit will crash repeatedly in which you have to unplug the usb and plug it back in. It’s so annoying because this will crash every 5 minutes, especially if you’re in the middle of watching YouTube, or sharing split screen with apps like Waze and YouTube etc. The manufacturer should acknowledge these issues and patch it. You have been warned!

Not worth the hassle
So fidgety it's useless. Slow ... unresponsive....locks up. Drops the connection often and restarts. Good in theory.... absolutely crap in execution.

It works good
It works well for my 2022 x3. Good connection is the only important thing when it comes to playing your videos. Im very pleased, I can watch youtube, netflix and a bunch of other apps on my display now

My opinion
This device is inconsistent and it makes connecting to my phone an issue when making and receiving calls. Videos play well but after some time you get no sound. The device gets extremely hot, something to watch out for. Lastly, I did think this item was over priced.

Actually connects through BMW carplay
Works on my 2017 BMW x5 with some quirks. Doesn't do wireless Android auto, just android through the carplay connection. Make sure you have a sim ready or activate the car's wifi. The customer support worked hard to troubleshoot.

Turns the BMW Screen Into a Full Android Streaming Hub
I installed this MMB CarPlay AI box in a BMW with iDrive, and it basically turns the factory screen into a full Android tablet without permanently changing anything. Setup was straightforward. Plug it in, follow the prompts, and it boots right up. Performance has been solid. Apps open quickly, menus are smooth, and switching between Android, wireless CarPlay, and Android Auto is fast and easy. The extra RAM and storage actually matter here. Streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Prime Video load without lag, and video playback is smooth. It feels closer to a phone or tablet than a typical car add-on. I really like that it keeps the factory controls. The iDrive knob, steering wheel buttons, and touchscreen all still work, so it feels integrated instead of tacked on. GPS works well, and having access to the Play Store makes it easy to add navigation, music, or other apps without being locked into just CarPlay. Connectivity has been reliable using Wi-Fi, and it’s nice that it also supports a SIM card if you want constant data without using your phone’s hotspot. OTA updates are a plus too, since it means the system can improve over time. This is clearly best suited for parked use, road trips with passengers, or downtime, not something you should be messing with while driving. But for turning the BMW screen into something far more capable, it does exactly what it promises. Overall, this is a powerful upgrade if you want full Android functionality and streaming on your BMW’s factory display without losing OEM controls.
