Must have for any videographer
A must have for any content creator, photographer or videographer. I got this because I was looming for a way to transfer files from as card reader to external hard drive through an iPad while ipad is being charged. This does the trick! I have also started doing more video and built out my camera a cage so when I get a Vmount battery, this is a must.

Amazing find. Perfect solution for iPhone videography
Took a lot of internet research to finally find this little gem. I'm using it on a BeastGrip iPhone 15 Pro set up with a Rode mic and Samsung 2TB SSD. Works perfectly. Because the Rode mic is powered, I can plug both into the Small Rig hub and the iPhone can "see" the Samsung 2TB SSD and the Rode mic. The SmallRig hub has a very clever clip / cold shoe attachment that allows you to slide it into a cold shoe or clip it to your equipment. The cable is nice and short so no extra cable to fiddle with. And, the hub has a charging port so you can charge your iPhone as needed. This is truly one of those niche products that fits the bill perfectly. Even the price was right.

Fills an important need!
I initially received one of these with the "SmallRig x Brandon Li All-in-One Mobile Video Kit" that I bought. That kit has a fatal flaw (check out the reviews) so I returned it, but the one part of the kit that really works well is this USB-C hub—so I purchased another one separately. It allows external SSDs to work with iPhones when they draw too much power for the iPhone to supply (which is not an issue with the Crucial SSD that I'm using, but is with many others). I had long been looking for a portable hub to solve this problem, and this Smallrig is the only one I've found that actually works. Plus, it's very... small.

Bad quality and poor speeds
I own a few SmallRig products and am generally please with quality. The SmallRig hub is definitely an exception.Upon opening the box, I saw that the internal circuit board and housing had become separated. Not that big of a deal, as it quickly went back together. But after trying to use it with my SmallRig cage, Samsung T7 SSD, external power supply and iPhone, it quickly became clear that this hub has problems.Build quality is lacking - very thin housing in which the end plates come apart to easily in turn exposing the circuit board. This hub could not keep up with the 4K speed of the iPhone video camera. It would either lose communication with the hard drive or cut the video recording within 9 seconds. After taking the hub out and connecting the SSD directly to the IPHONE, 4K recording was flawless. I tried again with many different high quality USB C cables and still the same results with the hubPower pass through with a external battery worked fine.I really wanted to like the hub, but the build quality and advertised speed are not there. I have another small hub from a different company that works just fine in the setup.Returning the product. My hope is SmallRig can introduce a better quality hub in the future to go with the rest of their outstanding lineup.

Nice USB-C Hub, Cold shoe mount is fantastic
The media could not be loaded. While a USB hub isn't anything super special these days it's nice that the SmallRig setup has a USB-C hub that hooks onto their rig with a cold shoe mount. The USB-C Hub can also be mounted via the clip if that's something that works better for your setup.

Seamless integration, easy to use and compact. wish it had HDMI
The usb c hub works amazing with the MagSafe cage basic kit I bought and this hub. The only issue was when I tried to connect my hd camera monitor via HDMI-USBc; turns out usb-c 2.0 isn't compatible with video output and I got to thinking what else would you use that port for?I have my power, storage, and sound going through just fine but not my reference monitor. I feel it could be an oversight on SmallRigs side because every thing else works except video on via the usb-c hub. They could add an HDMI port. I love all the other products however it's always the small annoyances that people remember that could've been easily solved.UPDATE: SmallRig have reached out and said they let product design know and would consider releasing a new model with a HDMI port in the future!

Does not work for mobile pc to mobile monitor
Seems great for what it’s intended for, but does not work for an on-the-go handheld gaming pc to mobile monitor setup :/ 5-star review because I’m team small rig for my mobile computer setup and my camera equipment because I like it modular

Don’t buy this unless you want to lose all your footage
Had issues the first time I used this for a YouTube video. Thought it was the cables I was using even though they were 10gbs cables, so I ordered 20gbs cable for SSD and after shooting for 20 minutes realized the SSD wasn’t connected and all the footage was lost. Had to connect directly to the SSD with my phone and it worked fine. Return window closed 1 day before this review so I’m stuck with a broken POS
