Set up was not a problem. Compact and yet robust. Very easy to use Brother Printer.
I like how simple the set up was. I had a problem with the installation CD, but it was still able to set up without much hassle. It is very small and compact, but sturdy. I love the touch screen display and buttons. It lets you know immediately if you have WiFi set up or not. Printing a test page is very simple too, and the installation of the ink provided was a snap. Little details matter and this machine seem to be very well designed. It is heavier than my old Canon printer, but the size makes up for it. It fits nicely on my side table out of the way. Loading paper is from beneath and seems very secure in the tray, which is hidden from view and dust. I think there is also a document feeder at the top also. Happy printing!

Gets the job done
I bought this printer with some hesitation given the mixed review and the concern of ink use by the self cleaning system. OTOH, HP had no successor to my existing printer which had given a lot of use until the print nozzles finally clogged. So far this Brother has been great and has proven to be a good value for the price. The plastic parts are cheap and sometimes worrisome, but nothing has broken so far. The print quality is excellent for the price and the printer is faster in printing and scanning than my previous HPs. So far, the ink consumption has not been any more of an issue than it was with my previous HP (and the HP I'd had before that). The installation wasn't entirely intuitive, but it ultimately started working without too much effort. So...yes, it seems to be constructed from cheap plastic materials and the installation could be more straightforward, but it gets the job done and doesn't seem anymore costly to use than its major competition.

What a Difference!
I had an Epson and it was costing so much for the ink that at one sitting my grandchildren could use up the ink. Anyway I was having problems with breaks in printing and tried to clean out the ink dispensers but that didn't work. I finally gave up and said no more Epsons for me. I look at various reviews and although there were not all perfect reviews I decided to take a chance because the reviews kept saying cheaper ink. Well, when I set it up which was fairly easy. The longest part is just setting it up to my WiFi. So my first print job was in color and it was perfect. What surprised me though is the ink was still showing as almost full. That would never have happened with the Epson. I have had this printer for a few weeks now and I am very happy with it. I also like the fact that I don't have to worry about running out of ink on a last minute print job. I also like the fact that I can print photos and index cards. I am very satisfied.

Honestly WORST PRINTER I've ever owned.
Update: The ink for this printer is HORRIBLE. It will say the ink is empty when there is plenty left. Will not let you print in black and white if it thinks a color cartridge is low. BIGGEST issue, the ink is chipped, so it's possible to get a faulty chip with a brand new cartridge. Now my printer wont work and I need it today and I don't have time to order new ink. This is the most ridiculous system I've ever encountered and I want to throw this printer at the wall.Original: The scanning function on this is horrible. No matter what we do, all pictures come out very dark. We have adjusted everything imaginable. Print function works great. Just disappointing considering we bought this specifically for scan. Also -- I'm convinced its possessed. I am sure it has something to do with being connected to the wifi and automatic updates and what not... but it will randomly wake up and start making noise while I'm just chillin on the couch and it makes me jump every time. I think its planning my ultimate demise.... :(

I like it!
Our HP that we'd had for ten or so years, started acting up, so we switched. Checked around, opted for this Brother and so far, I like it. I'm a light user, just incidental stuff now and then. But it connected to everything, wireless works good, and it seems so fast to start printing, like, instantly after I press print. Can't say much about how much ink it uses, but no complaints so far. Nice unit, fits in good looks good, prints good.

Mediocre quality, high ink usage, can't print black only when color runs out
It is exceptionally easy to use; as close to plug-and-play as I've ever had. The quality is what I expected for the price, but I wish I had paid attention to the reviews about ink usage. I chose this over another Brother printer than used individual refillable tanks, but the scanner on that model couldn't do edge-to-edge scanning without size reduction — this one, however, can do that. Now having had to replace color ink cartridges multiple times when I just want to print black only, I will choose differently in the future.

Favorite printer.
I've basically been waiting/looking for this printer for five years. I had another printer that eventually just gave out due to age, so I started looking around. I couldn't find anything I liked and managed to find a slightly newer version of my old printer near a dumpster. It worked okay, but it was still outdated and a little awkward to use. Most printers I see nowadays have a slanted top for people who want to copy pages through a feeder, but my cats jump on those. I wanted a flat top that I could put a few cat deterrents on top of. After hunting on multiple websites for two days, this one had the best balance in features, scanning/printing quality, physical shape/size, and price for me. It's by far my favorite printer/scanner combo I've owned so far.

Good printer
The printer works good. I had a hard time getting it to work at first. There is no way to connect the printer except wirelessly. It has some quirks. Great for the price and a person more familiar with a computer than I am.

Useful printer for the price
I used to go to the library nearby to scan or print things. However, I started applying for jobs and it became quite inconvenient to go to the library all the time so I got this printer.I am quite happy with this printer. It has wireless printing, scans and copies as well. I was a bit annoyed with the software though because it took a bit long to make the wireless printing work. I had to allow the printer application through the firewall. it prints well in black and in colour but I am mostly going to print in B/W.For the pricepoint it is quite a good home use printer. It made my life much easier and I would buy this again. One more thing to recommend is I would not update the firmware/software of this printer as I have heard that then third party ink cartridges will no longer work.

Best Quality Value inkjet printer - Love Brothers for Quality
Very easy to install/setup (under 10min for install and wireless setup).Separate Cartridge for each color is big advantage, will need to replace only the one is finished.During X-mas bought a HP envoy inject printer from Costco (for $50) - it was garbage, after printing 10 page 1 color (yellow) almost finished and all color printouts came out discolored (blueish) and had to replace the single color cartridge even though other 2 colors were more than half full. Also HP setup took 30 min - very invasive and feels had spyware.Compared to HP, this Brother printer is very good for average users. Has auto-feed, which is a must for me.I will re-buy it in a heart-beat.By the way, replacing a 9 years old still working MFC 465cn Brother inkjet printer (jut don't want to die). Reason, replaced my laptop Win 7 to Win 10, and there was no support for the old printer in Win 10.Finally wanted to get a wireless printer.

Worth Paying for a More Expensive Printer
I used to own the MFC 7860DW printer, now discontinued and followed by an updated $250 version. Brother is amazing. This printer, however, is not for you if you desire a cost-effective solution. By the time you end up printing 12,000 sheets of paper, you'd have spent over $400 in ink costs, if you purchase them from main retailers such as Walmart and Staples. For the same cost of an ink package at any of these (~$36), you can purchase ink for an MFC 7860DW on Amazon--the difference? An ink package for this printer prints 200 pages…whereas the ink cartridge for a larger, initially more expensive brother printer yields up to 12,000 pages (do the research yourself!). So this is a no for me. Initially it looks cheap, but down the line I would have bough 4 of these printers merely in ink costs! It functions well and prints well. The paper jams too quickly, but other than that it's a good printer. Just not for busy homes or offices.

Compact, Easy to use, Good print quality, All In One
I am replacing another BROTHER which is really the older brother of this printer and which served me faithfully for more than 6 years. And I am thrilled about the print quality, speed, ease of use, ease of install and all-in-one functionality. The only drawback is the touch screen placed vertically on the front of the printer which means I have to place it on a high table to be able to see the screen easily.

Perfect for "light duty" home office.
I like the multi-function of this all-in-one Brother MFCJ690DW Wireless Color Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax. It is easy to install and operate. The colour printing is sharp. I have used the printer, scanner and copier functions of this machine and they were to my full satisfaction. I have not used the fax function yet, thus no comments on it.I have connected this machine wireless with my desktop, laptop and smartphone, they are all working fine with various functions. except the fax (not yet connected and tried out). I would recommend this item to anyone with "light duty" home office usage. You could put it in any suitable location at home away from your desktop and/or laptop.
