I have a very intelligent nephew who’s only 7 year old. He’s very smart and curious and we always want to challenge him but also give him things that his 7 year old brain can do. I purchased this to have activity that I can do with him when he visits me. There’s a manual that comes with this product that’s very easy to follow, it was extremely easy but it wasn’t impossible to put together. It gave us the right amount of “challenge”, which was so fun to do! All the pieces are made from light-weight and wood, and when the box is fully assembled it has a light weight. This is mostly best for if you’re looking for an intellectual exercise, especially for children (I recommend to not get this for anyone younger than 7-8 because it is a technical piece). The size and appearance are accurate and are just as described on Amazon. This little box was so much fun to put together and the whole idea of it is so clever, never seen anything like it and for that I 100% recommend it. This can make the perfect gift for smart kids who are into puzzles and building things. Given the unique idea, and the intellectual benefit my nephew got from this I think this puzzle provides a great value for its price. I will order another puzzle from this seller if they list more puzzles that are similar in the underlying idea. Absolutely love this and recommend it to everyone including adults.

Fun puzzle. I was worried about possible splinters because it's wood but haven't had any issues thus far. My only complain is the instructions. I originally got it to give my elderly uncle something to "build" since he can't work with his tools any more but it was a little too complex.

I have done a lot of these puzzle boxes with hidden compartments over the years. I usually customize the finish, and colors, and use them to make money gift giving a bit more fun. I find it nicer to give as a gift. The recipient gets something to have in hand rather than just an envelope +/- card, and cash. This one is on the simpler side. The box says 6 years +, and I think that is the age for the finished project not the kit. Some of the parts need care and patience when removing from the board. I expect the kit to take no more than 2 hours including waxing any moving parts once I get to that point. It will take me several weeks to plan to the custom colors and finish, prep the pieces, then do the coloring before I can put it all together. I use woo stain markers and quality colored paint markers that can be found right here on Amazon to do any finish and color custom work. This will contain a cat gift for a child's first "double digit" aka Tween birthday this summer. That way they get the excitement of a kid receiving a fun, and special gift, and the more "big kid" experience of a cash gift to purchase something they would like. And they are left with a small private space to hide small personal things. The materials appear to be good quality for the price and level kit. The instructions are well thought out line drawings. I love that you can set your own pass-code for opening the box. So even that can be personal and meaningful. I think this would also be a fun way to present an engagement ring and proposal for someone who likes brain teasers without making it too difficult. Include a note with a hint for figuring out the pass-code. Remember...too difficult, and you might be waiting months for an answer if they don't just give up. Too easy, and it's not fun.

I enjoy wooden puzzles. This one unfortunately has a lot of drawbacks. First off, the frames appear to be of different materials, some are like balsa wood and another is fairly sturdy, so much so that the pieces broke coming out of the frame and I'm very careful with wood puzzles. The instructions are horrible. It's one piece of paper that has all the piece identifications (nothing is marked on the frames so you don't know what they are unless you look at the paper). The piece identifications are very difficult to decipher so I had to play a lot of guess work while putting it together. Each step then is so basic that you have to interpret what else is needed or how to put the pieces together. Of course everything being on one side of a piece of paper makes everything very small. My first piece broke during assembly, fortunately it was covered up in a later step so it retained its strength. I will say that when I do think of the word puzzle, maybe that's what the manufacturer had intended. It was, indeed, a puzzle to put together and it definitely is not a 6+ item as stated, I had a lot of difficulty and I'm a senior citizen! There are better wooden puzzles available that have better material and readable instructions.

This is made of that cheap board that breaks easily but it is cute when it's assembled. For looks, not touch.
