Excellent film, exciting, engaging & very enjoyable

A great, early Harrison Ford movie and for Canadian viewers, Jan Rubes in a leading h role.

I saw this movie first time in the late 80s, and now I had surprisingly pleasant review. even it`s a pretty old movie with Harrison Ford, it`s still very entertaining. It`s not a movie with great explosions, roaring shootouts and spectacular car chases - the story have a pretty low pace, but it is never boring. the excitement after the brutal toilet murder, I got the culture crash and the absent of respect for each other - rednecks, tourists and tour operators, humans not showing respect for the Amish and their traditions and way of life. Much of the movie describe Ford`s strive to fit in with the Amish, his attraction to McGillis while he is hiding for the killers, and I got a fine view to their world, their solidarity and religion as the corner stone in their lives - and the opposite from our decadent world. It became a great movie experience for me, great plot and very good actors, Lukas Haas was just adoring i his debut, and the score is beautiful. top movie - I gave it 8 out of 10!

THis is a compelling film from start to finish, starring Harrison Ford and Kelly McGilliis. Ford plays a police detective assigned to protect an Amish boy and his mother who have inadvertently become targets after the boy witnesses a murder in a Philadelphia station rest room. The film is lyrical in is depiction of the Amish way of life and the way the community supports one another, while never losing sight of the threat being posed by those determined to silence the one witness to their crime. A scene which is alone worth watching the film for is the Barn raising, set to a wonderful score by Maurice Jarre. I defy anyone not to feel uplifted by it.

The film is really good looking especially in DV. And what a beautiful film all around, definitely Mr. Fords finest performance.

Great Movie

I have always been fascinated by people of the Amish faith and way of life. (It is a shame Hollywood never filmed the Broadway Musical, "Plain and Fancy.") I had not viewed "Witness" since it debuted in the 1980s. I was therefore delighted to find the mystery has aged well. I enjoyed seeing the film again and even enjoyed it more than upon that first viewing. Harrison Ford and the remainder of the cast is outstanding. Lucas Haas is great as the young Amish boy who is a witness to a police murder. There is only a little bit of blood and gore. Most of the film is directed to the relationships that Ford's character comes to interact with living secretly among a Pennsylvania Amish community. "Witness" is a very good movie and available at a bargain price.

Perfect plot for Harrison Ford: Righteous, hunted, adapting, learning, loving, losing when winning in the end. All that in an Amish setting. Must see (for me).

私は本作でケリー・マクギリスという女優を知ったが、美しくて優しい無骨なアーミッシュの女を好演している。 まさか1年後に「トップガン」で戦闘機の技術的講師でトム・クルーズの恋人を演じる彼女を見ることになるとは思わなかった。 彼女は「告発の行方」でもジュディ・フォスターと共演して好演しているが、この3本の作品の彼女は、それぞれ全く異なった女性を見事に演じ切っている。 演技派と云われる俳優でも、これ程、役を別人のように演じ分けられる役者は滅多にいない。 本作は映画として、とても楽しめる作品だが、ぜひともケリー・マクギリスの演技を見てほしい。特に「トップ・ガン」を御覧になった方にはお薦めする。彼女の女優としての優れた才能が良く判る。
