Impressive Debut
While being an avid fan of the female idol groups of Korea (Girls' Generation, 4Minute, Kara, Orange Caramel to name a few), it is not often that a debuting girl group catches my attention. Most of us K-pop fans are hammered with an over abundance of debuting groups every year, both male and female. This forces you to tune out a majority of the groups until they prove their worth further down the road with other albums. This is where Sonamoo is different from the rest. As soon as I saw their MV of Deja Vu, I knew I was watching something special. You have here a gorgeous seven-member group with beautiful voices. Not enough for you? These girls are oozing with charisma and have a lot of personality. If you watch any of their interviews or performances, they can draw you in with a unique vibe that makes them so special.Since I was so enamored with them, I went all-out and purchased the Special Edition Mini Album instead of the standard release. This edition comes with:Photo Booklet (64 pages): Great quality paper. Lots of photos in here of the girls looking pretty holding various types of flowers and plants. There is also a section toward the end with lyrics for each song on the CD.Special Photobook (20 pages): I like this one better that the other photo booklet. Again, great paper quality. The girls look really good here and are wearing Nike-related gear. Maybe they have some type of endorsement deal with them (Not a bad start for a rookie girl group).1 Random Member Photo Card: There are seven possible cards and you get one of the member's card. I will also note that the image on this card differs from those you receive on the normal edition.1 Random Member Profile Card: Again there are seven possible cards and you receive one of their cards. The card gives member information such as their date of birth, specialty/skill, resolution, among other things. They are listed in both Korean and English. It is signed by the member as well with a small note (No, they did not actually sign and write the message on the card you are holding, it is a print). I will also note that the image on this card would be the same as it is on the normal edition.Poster: This poster has the members in their Nike gear. It is different from the normal edition release as that poster has them in their "flower outfits." I like the special edition poster better.Album CD: This is located at the back of the 64-page booklet. There are six tracks on this album:1. Into Me (Intro)2. Deja Vu3. Love Call4. People's Little Sister5. Just Go!6. Everlasting LoveThe intro song is one of the best I have heard in a long time. Intro songs are typically hit or miss, but when done right, they can be amazing which is what we have here. Deja Vu, People's Little Sister, and Everlasting Love are really good songs worthy of space on your playlist. Just Go! is ok and Love Call is below average. One below average song among six is not a bad line up for a debut album. If you like Sonamoo, buy the physical album. The packaging, photo books, and member cards are awesome to own. I am expecting big things from these girls. Hopefully they rise through the K-pop ranks in the years to come. If they don't, I am going to blame their label company, TS Entertainment, for dropping the ball. These girls have all the right tools to be a success. As long as they do not cut/replace members, encounter company politics/mis-promotion, or have scandals, they are going to be one of the top Korean girls groups in the near future.
