Excellent harness. Keeps my dog secure. I especially like the chest loop that helps control my dog who likes to pull. The orange is nice and bright. Sturdy Ruffwear quality product that I will be using for years.

I foster dogs for our local animal shelter and have watched every type of dog from Jack Russells to German Shepherds. A few of them were escape artist and I was warned to be careful on walks. I used to just use Martingale collars with them but didn't feel they were a safe type of collar to use when bicycling with them on the WalkyDog. Then a friend of mine recommend this harness. I looked it up, read the reviews, bought several sizes, and tried them out. The pros: The dogs cannot back out because of the belly strap. Not a single one has been able to. Most of the dogs take to the harness right away with a few treats, putting on the harness helps teach them manners and not to react when something is put over their heads or around their bellies. I can now safely bicycle with them on the Walky Dog since there is no chance of them backing out of the harness while running, or whip-lashing themselves, or chocking themselves when jerking after a squirrel. The dogs pull less on the leash while I walk them, I think it's because the leash clips to the back and they have less pressure on their necks to pull against. The handle on the back makes it easier to help some of the disabled or sick dogs make the steps up to the house and the jump into the truck, as well as an easy way to grab a dog in an emergency. The straps were a little complicated but the extra steps to adjust them make the harness safer since the straps don't pull loose like other harnesses did, especially when I bicycle with the dogs. I love the inside tag that I can write my name and number on. I used a sharpie and the print has lasted through quite a few washings. The cons: It took a little fiddling to figure out how to adjust the harnesses to fit correctly and snugly. The straps were just a little complicated. The male dogs I watch always urinate on the belly strap, but I just wipe the belly strap down and stick the harness in the wash each night. On some of mixed breed dogs I watched, who were oddly shaped, the adjustment straps hung loose, couldn't reach the side stretchy pockets on the harness to hold them, and posed a tangle hazard when I bicycled with them. I just used pipe cleaner to tie the loose ends to the harness on them. Some of the mixed breed dogs are overweight, just oddly shaped, or narrow chested and the harness would fit, but were just a little looser on them than I'd like, or was able to adjust to. Miscellaneous: Some of the dogs I foster just hated the harness and chewed the side straps to pieces when I put it on. One of the dogs thought it was a toy and shredded the straps in under a minute, my fault for leaving it on the table where he could get it, but I just wish the harness was a little more chew resistant and sturdy. The harness is not reflective, I had to add pieces of reflective tape on them so the dogs and I can be seen easier when it's dark out. All in all a great harness, safe, escape proof, and perfect fore everyday use.

Mostly good, I can adjust it to fit decently well on my Jack Russell. Its thr only harness he hasnt freed himself from, to go after other dogs. This is his second one, the first held up for about 3 years. I guess we'll see if the quality is as good now, as the company got bigger.

Love this harness for hiking. Great for the squirmy dog. Excellent quality and the handle to assist your dog either up something or help them down. Would definitely recommend this harness.

These are the only safe harnesses for my Italian Greyhounds. No escaping in a panic, a handle to swiftly grab them if needed, machine washable….just wish they had more colors!

We have purchased different sizes of this harness at least a half dozen times over the years. All of them are still working fine, but my pup is nearly grown and isn't likely to change size and was a bit embarrassed to be wearing. this harness in red that had faded to pink. My other half suggested that the pup was tired of hand-me-downs and that I buck up and order her a new one. She looks very sporty, which fits, since she goes pretty much non stop. This harness is very adjustable but can take some time to get dialed in. If you have a long skinny dog you might need to cinch the straps fairly snugly to get a good fit (straps can then be cut or tucked into slots within the harness itself. When new the harness feels pretty stiff (as compared to the years old well worn in version). Be aware that it will likely start to get black marks from where the leash clips into the metal part of the harness. We use the corresponding Ruffwear leashes and the rubbing just creates black residue. This will not come out ... just be aware that your pristine harness will stay pristine for the duration of a few walks. The lifting handle is excellent and can be used to help lift dogs over obstacles or in/out of a car. When properly fit it is very hard for a dog to back out of this particular model of Ruffwear harness (I LOVE Ruffwear products but was recently gifted a different style harness and that one is VERY easy to back out of.). So ... if you're looking for something super durable (as in over a decade), functional and that your dog will unlikely be able to back out of this is the brand and model to buy.

Vor der Renzension eine kurze Beschreibung der Trägerin: Schulterhöhe 35 cm, Brustumfang 53 cm, 11 kg, sehr schlanke, athletische Figur - Ungarischer Straßenhund, undefinierbarer Mischling, erinnert optisch etwas an eine sehr geschrumpfte Mixtur aus Labrador und Doberman. Charakteristisch ist erst einmal die anfängliche Angst vor geschlossenen Räumen (war vorher wohl noch nie innerhalb von vier Wänden oder unter einer Zimmerdecke) und die unbändige Freude, mit anderen Hunden zu spielen. Ist superschnell, wendig und in der Natur kaum einzufangen, wenn sie nicht will. Das stellt uns vor folgende Probleme: Auf dem Weg in fremde Gebäude stemmt sich der Hund anfänglich (zuhause geht es mittlerweile) gegen die Leine. Wenn sie Hunde erblickt, möchte sie um alles in der Welt unbedingt mit den Artgenossen spielen, egal ob wir, die anderen Hunde oder deren Besitzer dies möchten. Auch hier wird sich gegen die Leine gestemmt, sollte das "Spielziel" hinter uns sein. Nun mag mancher denken: "Dann lass die Süße doch spielen" - was man schon mal von Hundebesitzern hört, die selbst nicht so viel Wert auf Erziehung legen (klar kann man den Hund auch den ganzen Tag allein im Garten lassen, wenn man es nicht schafft, dass der eigene Hund normal Gassi gehen kann oder auf den Namen hört). Ein an sich freudiges Ereignis kann auch schnell gefährlich werden. Unser Hund sieht grundsätzlich erst einmal jeden Hund als potentiellen Spielkameraden an, auch wenn der andere mitunter keine Lust auf Kontakt hat und eher in eine bissige Richtung einzuordnen ist. Unserer Kleinen ist auch egal, ob und was um sie herum geschieht, wenn Spiel und Spaß lockt. In einer Stadt oder in der Nähe von viel befahrenen Straßen kann das tödlich enden. Als es nun geschah, dass sich unser Wirbelwind in solchen Situationen schnell mal aus Standardgeschirr und Halsband herauswindete, musste eine Lösung her. Bei der Recherche sind wir auf Ruffwear-Produkte gestoßen, die als zusätzliche Sicherung einen dritten Gurt um den Bauch anbieten. Beim ersten Anprobieren fällt schon auf, dass hier ein guter Halt geboten ist. Es verrutscht nicht, obwohl die Gurte nur annähernd passend eingestellt waren. Sehr positiv. Die Polster um die unteren Gurte sind auch ein nettes Detail, zumal sich unsere Hündin viel und schnell bewegen kann; da wird wohl nichts einschneiden. Die Verarbeitung wirkt äußerst hochwertig, gute Nähte, robuste Materialien. Auch wenn das Geschirr erst ein paar Tage im Einsatz war, macht es den Eindruck, dass es lange halten wird. Obwohl hier auch mehr Fläche des Hundes "belegt" wird, macht es ihr nichts aus, es den ganzen Tag zu tragen- scheint also bequem zu sein, löblich. Der Halsgurt lässt sich nicht öffnen, also muss der Hund mit dem Kopf durch. Bei unserer Dame war dies kein Problem, bei anderen Hunden mag dies erst mit etwas Übung klappen. Schwierig wird es, wenn der Vierbeiner unruhiger Natur ist. Unser erster Hund - Labrador-Mischling - war vor lauter Freude nach draußen zu gehen, kaum zu bändigen; da war das Anleinen am vorhandenen Halsband schon schwer - solche Hundebesitzer werden ihre Problemchen bekommen. Zudem muss eine Pfote durch den Zwischenraum von Halsgurt und mittlerem Gurt geführt werden, da die hinteren Gurte nur auf einer Seite mit Schnappverschluss geschlossen werden. Man sollte seinen Hund vor dem Anziehen also erst einmal in eine ruhige Gemütslage versetzen, ansonsten kann es nervig werden. Was wir anfangs als eher witziges Detail abtaten, war der Tragegurt. Jetzt möchten wir ihn kaum noch missen. Da sie noch etwas ungewillt ist, ins Auto zu hüpfen, kann man sie nun einfach kurz wie einen Koffer auf dem Rücksitz parken. Beim gefürchteten Gang in fremde Gebäude ist sie so nun leicht auf den Arm zu heben. Und wenn das Gezerre an der Leine zu wild wird, wenn andere Hunde um sie herum sind, können wir ihr locker den Boden unter den Füßen wegnehmen, bis sie sich beruhigt. Dies mag natürlich nicht funktionieren, wenn der Hund seine 20-60 kg hat (kommt auf die dicken Arme des Besitzers an)... Auch kann dies bei Angstgestörten Hunden nicht die beste Methode sein, "Hürden" zu überwinden, da sollte man lieber erziehungstechnisch hin arbeiten - bei unserem Mädel funktioniert es prächtig - gezwungen zu werden und dann zu merken, dass keine schlimmen Erlebnisse darauf folgen. Mittlerweile folgt sie uns freiwillig in unser Haus und in verschiedene Räume ohne getragen zu werden. Wer nun meint, der Preis sei nicht gerechtfertigt, sollte sich lieber mal überlegen, was ein "unsicheres" Geschirr an Folgen nach sich ziehen kann: Unfälle bei einer Flucht können beim Tierarzt mit teuren Operationen enden, schlimmstens mit dem Tod des Tieres. Wenn man seinem Tier nicht 100%ig vertraut, es ausreißt und jemanden beißt (vor allem Kinder) kommt hier noch eine rechtliche Komponente ins Spiel. Unfälle im Straßenverkehr können nicht nur das Tier, sondern auch Autofahrer, Radfahrer und Fußgänger verletzen. Man kann für einen Hund aus dem Tierheim schon ca. 300 Euro Schutzgebühr hinlegen, für Rassehunde sogar vierstellige Beträge, also läuft man doch hinter einem stolzen Sümmchen her, wenn der etwaige emotionale Verlust nicht groß genug sein sollte. Wer sein Smartphone versichern lässt, kann doch sicherlich auch in diese physische "Versicherung" investieren. Also lieber etwas mehr hinblättern. Vor allem, wenn man hier noch in der Erziehungsphase steckt und das Hündchen noch nicht perfekt aufs Herrchen oder Frauchen hört.

Great ... For my little blue Bedlington girl and if looks really smart. She had Small before but the XS is better, the other two can downsize now as I find it pays to err on the smaller size with these if your dogs are slender build. The extra reflective strip over ordinary harnesses is great and saved on of my dogs when a lead hasp failed, as the car driver saw her lit up like a Xmas tree! Great for winter and if hot in summer then I soak them in water as a cooling vest. Works a rest.
