Why the sliding collar? Does that hold it on hands-free to my straight fitting on my ancient grease gun? Otherwise, why have the collar?

The collar is add reassurance to the connection to whatever coupler you are using. Whether you are using a LockNLube Coupler or a standard push and click coupler it is to reassure the connection stays straight while using the adapter

Will this work with mini-size grease nipples like those used on lieaner bearing blocks?

Short answer is no. I had ordered this product to use on various hard to get to zert fittings. The attachment to your grease gun on this fitting does not clamp down tight enough, and when you apply pressure by putting grease into a fitting it leaks. I returned it for a full refund

how do you tighten it onto the zerk? Do you have to hold it onto the zerk when you pump?

The 90° adapter unfortunately does not work like the other Lock N Lube grease gun heads, where they grip the Zerk. In tight places, the Lock N Lube grease heads don't fit. The 90° adapter acts like any other grease gun head (but it's easy to use, it attaches right to the Lock N Lube grease gun head - you don't have to change the grease heads). What I do is apply some pressure to the 90° part (like you often have to do when using regular grease gun heads - that's the point to using the Lock N Lube heads, they grip the Zerk tightly). For me, it works well with a little pressure on it, and it takes a second to snap it on to the Lock N Lube head.

Are the plastic sections that snap onto the zert replaceable? Evidently mine were lost the first time I used it.
