Easy to use, long lasting, works as advertised.
We bought and installed our PetSafe cat door in 2021. As of 2025, four years later, the door is still performing flawlessly. A+ for durabiility. The door is in an unheated Northeast US exterior location exposed to summer heat, rain, and freezing temperatures in winter, and it has held up to our expectations. Battery life is great - I'm always surprised when it needs a new battery as I can never remember having replaced it last.We installed it in a sash window in the basement by fitting the door into a painted plywood panel, sliding the window sash up, and installing the plywood panel in the window opening. Of course a little air leaks through the small gaps in the door, but it is generally weather tight and does not admit a material draft or breeze. Installation was quick and easy. The one problem we had was that a raccoon figured out how to pull the door open in "exit" mode (ie; it reached into the door gap and pulled the flap open, rather than pushing the flap into the basement. I understand that, for safety, you would want the door to function in "exit" mode in all circumstances. So, I don't see this as a flaw, but its something to be aware of as a possibility.

NOT a good product
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND I figured this brand has been around the longest and should have a decent product for the expensive $. I was wrong.6 months after I have purchsed it has locked my senior cat out twice. This was during some extreme texas heat and the little guy almost died! The battery is new- so that isn't the issue.Microchip sensor doesn't reach/read all the microchips on my cats so had to spend more $ to get attachment for collar. The click of the sensor also scares some of my cats. Took them over a month to get used to the noise. The opening for the cats to crawl through is slightly smaller than my previous cat doors. It has a small hump inside, maybe to force the cat upward so it can recognize the microchip? My fat cat and my senior cats have some trouble navigating the smaller opening. You can't control the animal going in & out with the microchip. Only out- so you have to be careful when installing it to ensure proper direction.Too many issues for this product. Wish I could get a refund.

Freedom and peace of mind.
Absolutely LOVE this door! Our cat agrees. He has his freedom and we have peace of mind that no unwanted critters find their into our home. Batteries last over a year. Easy to setup and took hardly any time for our cat to figure it out!

Raccoon bypasses door security
This product has been working well for months to keep our outdoor cat's food safe from freeloaders. However, we just caught a raccoon that was able to bypass the chip controlled access. I assume he was using his claws to depress the two lock pins at the bottom of the door. That or sheer brute force.

Overall good, with some shortcomings
I installed this product, and then paired the PetSafe key tag successfully. But then I couldn't get it to actually open with the key tag. After reading the instructions very carefully I learned there's a motion sensor that activates first, and lights and LED when motion is detected. I assume this motion detector uses much less power than the tag reader, so it's a two-stage activation for the tag reader to save the batteries. Unfortunately there motion detector never senses movement no matter what I try; the LED never lights.I emailed PetSafe about the problem, and a week later I haven't received a response.I ordered a second unit, thinking the first was defective. It turns out the second one suffers from the same problem. But this time I tested it before I installed it, and it worked fine! Imagine my surprise to find it suffers the same motion detector problem once it was installed. After some experimentation, I have discovered that both doors work fine... but only when indoors!! Whenever either are installed into the outside door, the sunlight prevents the motion detector from working.I think the motion sensor is actually just a cheap photo diode that only senses differences in light intensity. When I test it with my hand outdoors, I'm not blocking enough of the sunlight in the tunnel so it doesn't register a change, and therefore never starts the tag sensor. But it seems to work ok for my black cat so far (has only been a couple days and she's only used it three times), as the cat fills more of the tunnel and blocks more light. I was afraid it wouldn't work in the dark, but so far it has activated and opened at least once in the dark.I think the product could be greatly improved by using a real motion sensor, and also by locking on both sides (this would require some rework to the electronics and sensors, but it would keep raccoons out better).I looked at many, many similar products, but so far haven't found any that seem like they would work better.

Works Great.
We have two cats that are microchipped but we also have a neighborhood cat that knows how to use a cat door and wants to come in and spray, so we needed something to allow our cats to go out in the back garden but keep unwanted animals out.One cat took to it right away, but the other cat took a little coaxing with treats and within a couple of days she also used it with no issues. The clicking noise doesn't scare our cats at all and it isn't that loud. In fact, when they come into the door from the outside, they now know to wait for the click that tells them it's unlocked and ready to enter.Installation: We have a local contractor that does small projects on the side and we had him install it for us. If installing in an exterior wall, make sure to purchase the Tunnel Extension ASIN B07HCHL56L. Order two. Our contractor took the time to cut down the second Tunnel to make it flush with the exterior wall. It looks and works great. Been using it for 2.5 weeks so cannot comment on how long batteries will last, but the installation instruction say not to use rechargeable batteries. This door is also meant for standard size cats. I doubt it will work for a very large Rag Doll or Maine Coon cat.
