Too Many Similar Medicinal Scents
After having used this box of oils in the same diffuser in four very different spaces over almost 1 year, I've come to know these scents quite well. As a former food and wine critic, I've learned I often notice odors most people cannot detect, so hopefully I can shed extra insight on these oils for you.The most disappointing thing is 3 of the 8 oils smell so similar that even after a year of use I still think of them as the same oil. Those 3 are Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, and Rosemary. They all smell like medicine from an apothecary in the 1800s, with slight variations in strength. The eucalyptus does not smell at all like the fresh minty aroma that always catches my attention when I get near a real eucalyptus tree. And the rosemary smells nothing like a real rosemary plant. I have bought many rosemary scented things because I love its usual pine scent, but this rosemary has only the faintest hint of pine— if you can overlook its strong medicinal smell. Perhaps Tea Tree is accurate for how it should smell, and the other two are just wrong. Frankincense also smells similar, like a half-strength of the same medicinal scent but without a hint of mint or pine. The other 4 scents are all very good. Peppermint is exactly the strong, sweet minty scent of a peppermint candy. Orange smells and looks like like it was extracted from an actual orange at its peak ripeness. Lemongrass smells like lemon Pinesol, so I use that when I want to eliminate cooking odors or make my space smell freshly cleaned. Lavender smells like every other lavender scented thing I've bought. The bottle design always drips out at least 2-3 drops, even when I only want 1 drop. So I always use 2-3 drops, and the scent lasts for about 2 hours in my diffuser. The peppermint, lemon, and orange scents can quickly fill an entire bedroom. The more medicinal scents I don't really notice unless I'm sitting near the diffuser.I've always stored the bottles in their original box, which means they lay on their side. A few of them have leaked and gotten sticky against the foam inside the box, but I don't know if that is because I didn't screw the cap on all the way or the seal somehow got faulty over time.Overall, I am part disappointed to not smell the piney rosemary and minty eucalyptus that I actually bought this box for, and disappointed to have 4 oils that smell like old school medicine, but thankful for the others that smell exactly as they should.
