Complete 10-Hole Diatonic Harmonica: C Harmonica: C Harmonica Bk (Diatonic Harmonica Series)

Wow. Every page is purposeful, easy to understand and explains everything you could possibly want to know as far as the literary word could fathomably take you. I've gone through one page a day exercising my new found knowledge and where I find harmonica honestly frustrating to understand, this book really grounds one with understanding that this is not an instrument for the faint hearted. Skill in this instrument will take a LOT of patience, if you don't buy the book; good luck working out how to make a C Diatonic harp play 3 full chromatic octaves. (Which you will understand by the 12th of 51 pages) This instrument unlike many I've played; requires the user to go against the grain of standard chromatic playing, You will have to bend it to your will, also yourself to it's! Partial bends will undoubtedly baffle you but this book will give you a sense of comfort in settling with the instruments design and not putting the thing down blaming yourself as I had to before this purchase many times!

If you already have a grasp of music theory, and you want to quickly learn how to play the harmonica, then this book will help you understand the instrument, crammed as it is with a thorough collection of scales, techniques and extended chords. But, since most people will be struggling to play even one note at a time without parping into the adjacent holes, and would probably prefer to be able to play some kind of tune before mastering their A minor 11 arpeggios, and some instruments just look terrible in notation, I would describe this book as rather 'dry'. Luckily the internet is awash with tabs.

Good tutor book with plenty of examples to build technique.....

Most of this book is Greek to me. It's well over this beginner's head. It now just takes up room in the bookcase.

Although a great publication with lots of good information. I'm astonished at the oddball writing style of the music notation. This person that wrote it(James Major) actually plays harmonica? I want to really like the info in the book, but it's like the writer has never seen harmonica notation and had to create his own musical writing and tab. Did he not know that there is a founded writing style for music and TAB already in existence? So to try and make sense of this book, I have to learn his language to read it...? Unfortunate for a book that could have been so much better.... If you're up for the puzzle, grab it at a discount, because it will most definitely come folded and wrinkled as a non-original reprint. But buyer be ware, you'll have to translate his writing style because he had never seen Harmonica music written before!

It does not have exercises or classic blues riffs but it does explain the various techniques and does show you how to execute them. This book is an absolute must for all harmonica players. Even if you know all of this information, it provides a quick reference handbook. The C Harmonica Book is also useful in understanding other harmonica books, those that falsely assume the reader already has a background on the harmonica and understand everything. If you want to learn harmonica technique, try the David Barrett series, also published by Mel Bay. How do I know this?
