To Kill a Mockingbird: A Graphic Novel Review: I love this book in all its variations - Each time I read this book I think to myself, "this time, I'm not going to like it." But oh my Lord, it gets me right in the heart every single time. To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic that just tugs at your heartstrings and seeing it come to life in graphic novel format was such a beautiful gift. The illustrations were wonderful, the way the story was conveyed into this format was effortless. The last time I read this book was 7 years ago, and given all the controversy during the release of Harper Lee's Go Set A Watchman - which I've yet to read - I was a little worried about how I would view To Kill A Mockingbird amidst all the rumors and things that came out about it in the past few years. I shouldn't have worried though. I still loved Atticus Finch just as much, despite what I've heard about Go Set A Watchman, I still loved reading about Scout and Jem and their adventures from one summer to the next. I still loved Scout's relationship with her father. I still loved every single thing about the trial scene. And it still broke my heart to read how it all ends. If there is one thing that I would improve, it would be the scene that Scout runs to her father when he is being mobbed by neighbors as he tries to protect Tom from them and she speaks to Mr. Cunningham and talks about his son and how they had him over for dinner one time. I remember that scene being very powerful in the book, but the reflection of that in the graphic novel didn't quite give me the same feeling. Maybe it's just the passage of time making me read and see things differently, I'm not sure. I truly love this book, and I think having read this again now, I can finally transition into reading Go Set A Watchman, and I hope to God it doesn't disappoint or ruin this book for me in any way. Review: I love it! - A wonderful book. I love the graphics that were added to the fabulous story that is a childhood favorite of mine!

Classic
"It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what" (pg. 125). I really appreciate this story. It is one of my favorites and I try to read it once a year. I just saw it on stage in October. All the obvious criticisms aside, I find the telling of it from Scout's sweet perspective to be a powerful way to tell the story. I chuckled often throughout. Unlike some graphic novels this one isn't a retelling or modernization, it stays true to the story but breaks it up into panels and provides illustrations to aid in the storytelling. It is well done. A word on the illustrations: they are fantastic. There are some pages with no words and because the illustrations are so fantastic no words are needed. If you like TKAM I think you will appreciate this version. If you've wanted to be introduced to the material this would be a nice way to start. A good addition to a classroom library.

To Kill A Mockingbird
The book is beautiful. Has the true feel of a graphic novel. Well illustrated. Only a minor flaw. The hardcover was bent at the bottom. It would have been nice to have this wrapped in plastic prior to shipping.

great option for less enthusiastic readers
This is a really great option to supplement the reading of the novel. I use this for my students with Learning Disabilities and attentional issues. The only complaint I have is that it is not broken down into chapters and I had to go through and guesstimate with tabs.

Great adaptation of an American Classic
To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic, Fred Fordham did a masterful job of making this into a graphic novel. Mr. Fred Fordman didn't sugar coat the language nor the intent of Harper Lee story telling. I enjoyed this adaptation of this American classic and will add this book to graphic novel collections.

Impressive. Worth it. Updated Re The Play
Yes! Finally! The publisher found worthy professionals to create a graphic novel from Harper Lee’s only novel. (I am convinced the newer novel was a draft published after her death for money.) Impressive: - layout - drawings - pace of the layout - background Most of all, the publisher used most of the exact words from Lee’s novel. Unlike the Broadway play, the publisher did not add to nor take out important dialogue and events. In the Broadway play the director completely changed events and dialogue. For example, in the play Atticus gets in a physical fight. Baloney! Not in this graphic novel. This team of graphic artists did a great job! Thank you. It’s perfect for a 7th or 8th grader. I have read the novel several times and hopefully my child will read it in 8th grade. UPDATE Last year, I took my son to see the play touring from Broadway. Sadly, the play is not Harpers Lee’s book. There are scenes so foreign from her book. For example, Atticus has a physical fight. How could the producer/director rewrite the novel to include Atticus physically fighting? Read this novel, enjoy, and save $300.

Una adaptación muy fiel a la novela original; con un dibujo que plasma con detalle la época, y que acompaña perfectamente la historia que se cuenta.

having had the option of going through the classic in the traditional ant-print, voluminous book or a book with lots and lots of picture, i went with the only option, any like-minded individual would take. Go for the book with pictures. So pretttttttty !! So yes that is how i ended up with reading the graphic novel version of to kill a mockingjay As mentioned, i had never read the classic before and even after going through the graphic novel, i am not any far ahead. Yup ! you heard me. If you are like me and is going for the book just to read the classic with a cheat method then let me tell you it isn’t quite successful. Or would it be? well lets just say that it didn’t for me because i feel all i got from reading the novel was nothing more than a book blurb available at the back of the original book. My point is that while this book is amazing and the team behind this graphic novel are brilliant, this book is not meant to be a substitute for the original classic, if you haven’t read it already. This is supposed to be more of a companion novel. It will be an amazing addition to anybody who are fan of the cult classic. The print, illustration and the layout is amazing, to die for and almost like a collectors item. It is a beauty in art and each page is like glorious. I am in awe of the book. But to judge the book as a novel, then one has to understand (which i did too late) that the graphic novel is there to jog your memory or be a gift to the fans of this classic because what you get are the snippets of the story . well a detailed snippet but not the depth and the layers offered by the voluminous classic In short this graphic novel is a collectors item. I think everybody should have this in their collection if your are a true blue blood book lover. (is there a term like that ? anyways you get the point) But do not take this book as a substitute for the original classic because to understand and imbibe this cult, you need to read the original. For those who have already read and loved this classic, you need to get this copy today itself. its a work of art like literally but what a beauty man !! brilliant
