Great until the cheap cast metal breaks
I loved this door strike while it lasted. It truly holds the door perfectly and I thought it was an amazing product while it lasted, however, after 8 months, it snapped into several pieces. First, the thin back part snapped (not shown in the photo because it fell off and was swept up) and then a few months later it snapped again, rendering the strike completely useless. Upon close examination of the product, the metal appears to be a cheap cast iron of some sort, similar to the cheap metal in junk import products that break after a short period of time. The strike would be amazing if they decided not to use a cheap casting process and I feel cheated that I was not informed about the low quality manufacturing involved. Perhaps, mine had a quality problem in the casting process (my door and molding is dead flat and the knob is aligned perfectly), and if that is the case, then it is my hope that the company would refund or replace this defective low-quality item. Thus, I cannot recommend this product unless you want it to potentially break in a short period of time. Secondly, if the company does not offer restitution for this defective product, then I also cannot recommend doing business with this company – if you do not see an update to my post here, it means that the company has not read and/or remediated this problem. Stay tuned, I will post a video review here and on youtube in the near future describing the quality of this product. I should also note that I have hung countless exterior and interior doors and repaired may others, so I have a strong background in door and lock installation. In summary, this is a fantastic concept, but it is hindered by the companies attempt to save money by using an inferior material.

Does what it says - seals tight
This striker does exactly what it says it does. It gives your door multiple positions of 'close'. Now, even the slightest closing of the door clicks shut, and a hard closing also clicks shut. A hard closing causes the door to use one of the further away ridges on the striker, which then causes the door to be tighter against the weatherseal. The only drawback I've found is when it is this (very) tight, the doorknob is hard to turn because of all the pressure on the door. Now the trick is to shut the door lightly or medium. My door was a problem door that closed in different ways depending on the weather. Temperature and humidity affected how it clicked into the original striker, often not closing unless it was slammed, but also sometimes being so loose you could see sunlight coming in from all 4 sides. Previously, I adjusted the door and striker multiple times and also had a handyman do the same, but within a few weeks all the original closing/seal problems would return. I had decided the only real fix was to replace the entire door/frame assembly. I gave this device a try as a last resort and it worked.I made sure the striker was centered in the correct location of the door frame, which meant chiseling away some of the wood to enlarge the surrounding area so the striker would sit flush and the plunger would enter the hole in the center. After some trial and error I actually shimmed out the striker with a small piece of plastic cut from a plastic "for sale" sign because the gap between the door edge and door frame was too large (playing cards could also be used for this shim). With a little more measuring and a little chiseling, the door now closes first time - every time. As I said, the only drawback is that the door can now be closed too tight, but I think that's a better option than too loose or not at all, and if we shut the door 'normally' there's no problem, and no air leaks.I would definitely recommend this, especially for those problem, hard to adjust doors.

Great Product
Update March 9, 2020:It worked great for about 4 years. Over the course of the last year (approximately), some of the innermost "teeth" on the ratcheting part of the hardware have worn down, and the door no longer closes tightly. The metal seems to be too soft to last more than a few years with regular home use. I intend to try the same item in a different finish, material, or even brand.Original Review from Feb 26, 2015:Works perfectly. All I had to do was take the old strike plate off and install this one using the old screws. No adjustments were necessary, and now my door closes tightly.I docked a star because the finish on it is not smooth (looks bubbled in a few spots). I doubt anyone would look at it that closely once installed, but the finish quality didn't seem as good as it could be.

Fastest fix for loosely closing doors
Several years ago I had a closet door that rattled and would not close tightly. After unsuccessfully fussing with many other options, I happened onto the ratchet style strike plate. I swapped out the stock plate with the ratchet strike plate and got an instant tight fit.Last week I installed a new door in my house and had the same issue. I found this ratchet strike plate on Amazon and ordered it. I just installed it and it took less than 5 minutes. Once again an instant fix and I have a nice, tightly closing door. The vendor should really post better photos. From these photos you might assume you were getting used, beat up, or corroded parts. That was not the case. The striker plates are brand new and shiny brass. If there is a downside it is that the vendor does not include screws. Since I had a new installation reusing the existing screws was not a problem.

Actually work to help tighten doors against door seals.
These actually work. Over the years a couple exterior doors have moved enough that they don't seal tightly against the door seals and that lets air in. I have tried a few things that helped a little but when I saw these, I knew I had to try them. In one case I had to file the lower edge but after that it worked great and I was able to push the door closed better than it has been in years. In the other case, it worked with no filing or adjustment, you could immediately tell the door was now very tight against the seal. Now there was almost no movement of the doors against the door seals. To get any movement you have to push really hard against the doors whereas before it was easy.
