Datacolor SpyderX Elite: Monitor Calibration designed for expert and professional Photographers, Videographers and motion imagemakers

I recently tried the Datacolor SpyderX Pro for monitor calibration, and it has been a game-changer for my photography and gaming. Great little device.I'd gotten into astrophotography and find that depending which monitor i was using i would get vert different results.This has very quickly and easily got both of my screen within close range of each other. I was glad to see my Samsung G7 (G-sync) wasn't to far off but my Dell (g-sync) was miles off!

The Spyder unit is easy to use to calibrate your monitor. I have my unit set to 'automatic room light switching', which accounts for differing light levels in your operating location (i.e. varying natural light levels and artificial light usage).Under this setting, the Spyder measures the light level at 10 minute intervals and adjusts the monitor brightness to suit. On this basis the Spyder needs to be plugged into the computer during photo editing.When starting up the computer, it takes a couple of minutes for the screen brightness to be set correctly.

I'm a full time wedding photographer and colour consistent is very important for me. I have had my Benq monitor for just over a year and I realised my colours were matching the prints, phone or iPad screen. After reading lots of reviews I decided to go with SpyderX. It was very easy to install,very straight forward. Calibrating was just as easy,only a few adjustments and few clicks on the screen. It did make a big difference, my colour are a lot more accurate now ,although I have to say it does give a slight reddish tint after calibration but everything else seems fine. If you are serious about your colours and white balance you probably need one of these. I will write another update after a few months of use.

Really easy to use, it only took about 30 mins start to finish and wow I can see the difference and it does work on Windows 10 no problem (as stated in the item description). I bought an extension USB lead but did not need it as it has a nice long lead on it that reached from my base unit under my desk to over the top of my 34" monitor.

Have been using the Datacolor Spyder3 Express for nine years now, and though software updates ceased a few years back, it still does the job. However, on recently purchasing a new desktop computer, decided to update to the SpyderX Pro to replace using on my laptop and to set up on the new computer. It does have more features, i.e., measures the room lighting conditions, which the Spyder3 didn't, is more intuitive, and does an excellent job of calibrating your screen.It's a must to have your screen correctly calibrated, even if you think the colour balance looks OK. It's particularly important if printing your images, but even if not, you need to have your screen correctly calibrated - just sharing images digitally the colours can look off to someone else (or even on another of your own computers). It does help of course that whoever you're sharing with has their screen correctly calibrated! Assuming they do, you can be confident that your images will look correct to others (or even on another of your own computers).I recommend this product, and though not cheap, it will last you years.

Having spent a weekend trying to troubleshoot this gadget I have come to the conclusion that this toy is suitable for users with ONE monitor. If like me you have TWO then you will run into issues - namely the monitor temperatures do not match. This is despite both monitors being the same make and model and being connected directly to the same GPU. Having written to Datacolor I was told if I wanted the monitors to MATCH one should invest in the SpyderX Elite and not the SpyderX Pro and only expect a near match. Is that good enough? No, not really. I would expect a perfect match, not a slight temperature change to the monitors. I responded and received a reply from this tech support senior asking me to provided a long list of data for them to evaluate. This will take time, but I will provide them with this. I expect them to fob me off saying my hardware is old and there is nothing wrong with the SpyderX Pro. We will see. Ultimately, my recommendations are only single monitor users should buy this. Why? Because you will not be ANY wiser if the results given are accurate or not. Multiple monitor users - beware. Oh, yes, you could try using the DisplayCAL software with this device. Getting it going is pretty hard. In my case it was impossible to the point I gave up and when I tried to uninstall it my only option was to restore my Win10 to a previous point as it left so much residual junk I couldn't reuse the SpyderX Pro software from Datacolor. Again, beware if you use DisplayCAL.
