Avoid ai-otb software. Device is pnp is great.
The device works great alone. I didn't like the software that was provided. I couldn't uninstall it, I couldn't restore my laptop. The Chinese software was infused to the laptop... I go to its main folder, install.exe file was gone, the .dll's were gone... the .exe programme file was there, but it not work, the uninstall file was there, but a programme service was still active. It only had 4 components after you extracted the zip file. I couldn't bring up the programme to use it. It gave me a message that it was already running. So I stopped the service in administrative area of the laptop. I denied all ✔️'s on users, system, administration and it's access, deleted its access directly- Gotta be careful there...you delete the right one. Then I stopped the service, with the control panel open for ai-otb uninstall programme. I un-installed it and all components. Success! I ran a registry programme to clean out any orphaned registry values along other registry orphaned keys. I no longer have that Chinese programme on my laptop. Sadly, nothing is made in USA, in most electronics and or programming. Need to make things here and let go of China and their products. When you cannot uninstall a programme, it becomes a concern...up to no good, spying, malware, phishing... who knows what it was doing behind the scenes and sending info back important info to China... especially when .dll's were deleted. I should double check under "C drive" in default, users, public, and your access folders: programme files, programme 32 files, common files, anywhere programme's may be stored to be sure it's gone- Ai-otb software. The device alone is super... with several old hdd's and sdd's. Gave myself extra storage devices, yay! Can use windows to format, defrag, delete and etc to that storage device. You can find that device on Device manager and access using disk management programme. Usb port, i have the usb a & c versions. Compactness is small, fits on desk fine. Speed using 3.0 was fast. Functionality got access to the old hdd & sdd drives. The ease of installation: ai-otb software, I'd go against it as discussed above. Good luck.

Worth it!
I had an old LaCie external HD from about 20 years ago that I haven’t been able to get into in forever. Hooked this up and was able to transfer all of the files from the drive even though it hasn’t been hooked up to any computers since about 2007. A USB C to USB C option would be nice but the included cables worked perfectly. Easy to use, small and compact, overall worth the price

Almost returned it !!
Yes, I almost returned it !It arrived earlier than expected, and I tried it with a 3.5 inch IDE drive that I know works with similar external USB-to-IDE control. It would not work, then started to work but Windows said it needed to be initialized ... but it did not complete it.The unit itself seemed well made and had good reviews, so I pursued another tack: it uses the same data type cable as my old Samsung Galaxy S5, so I tried it. THEN IT WORKED. I finished the initialization for MBR and formatted as FAT32 okay.Since I got it to work with my own cable, I was torn between returning it or just mentioning it in a review. I will try to provide a comparison photo later, if I am allowed, but the cable end that plugs into the Unitek unit has a groove that is too short to make a good connection; the cable does not go in all the way due to the cable itself. This is clearly seen holding both the Unitek and Samsung cables side by side.Anyhoo, I decided to keep the unit after all because it works 90%, and todays nightly news said many Kohl's stores will no longer be accepting Amazon returns. Writing this review, Unitek popped up a price reduction to $28 instead of the $35 that I paid. Oh well, times are hard and worse things are going on in the world LOL. The unit can be made to work.Unitek, send me a new USB3 data cable and I will change this to five stars

Works with Blu-ray/DVD/CD drives
Why did you pick this product vs others?:This works with 5.25 inch optical drives. I bought a different brand adapter before this one but it didn’t work with optical drives. Come to find out you need specific ones for DVD CD Blu-ray drives. Tried with an LG and ASUS drive both work flawlessly.Adapter quality:Good quality product

Yay! It worked like a charm!
Worked as advertised. Since I only needed this device to be able to access data on old hard drives, I did not need to download any software updates before use. It was simply, plug-n-play; that is, plug the hard drives into it using the tools provided, then plug the device into the USB port on my computer and it started working. It started reading one hard drive almost immediately upon connection, and it transferred the data faster than I expected. Another hard drive took a minute or so longer. I had to disconnect that hard drive and then reconnect it and it worked. Sharing that information just in case it happens to someone else; don’t despair, just try again. Compatibility was not an issue; it worked. The bottom line is, the device worked better than I expected - since I was afraid it wouldn’t work with my old IDE hard drives. Because the device allows you access to your data, if you want to back that data up somewhere, you can. I simply moved the data I wanted to keep from the old hard drives and placed it on a newer drive connected to my computer - which can arguably be considered a backup. But no software updates/downloads were needed to perform any of these tasks. One note: the device is plastic (hard though), so if you’re a heavy handed person, just be mindful of how you connect/disconnect the drives. The device does NOT appear fragile but I mention that only because it is plastic so just be careful. I would recommend this device.

Easy to use
I have several hard drives from old dead computers. Some are mine and two were my Dads who passed away two years ago. I found thousands of pictures on his. what a great find. This worked fantastic and was easy to use
