Can you keep it on one color or does it change automatically?

It changes automatically. Also, BEWARE... this is battery-operated ONLY. I didn't read closely enough. Wanted one of the plug-in variety.

How do you take the battery cover off? I received this but can't get the cover off.

Very easy. At the back there is a rectangular space with a ledge or clamp. You just push it to the side & pull it out simultaneously. The batteries will be seen. The cover comes off.

Does this light stay on one color with the option to change the color, or does it automatically change every seconds?

Changes every couple of seconds

No it's not. All it does is alternate between colors. And the whole thing doesn't light up like the picture shows. Mostly just the base and the tips of the fiber. Unless you look at it from a certain angle.
