Cheap and cheerful but definitely does the job!
So brand names don't always mean as much as they used to, quality of a lot of things has dropped over time so paying £8 for a Vileda washing line I was a little sceptical. It's a good product though, I like the metal end which is more robust than it's plastic counterparts. The fixings make it feel good and sturdy when mounted, the housing for the line feels pretty strong and the line, though thin, is good enough for the price. The two slight negatives are that it definitely needs a prop as the line sags/stretches a lot especially with towels etc. Also the plastic 'foot' under the housing which you wrap the line around to keep it taut looks like it will not last. I can see from the reviews that many have found it breaks easily. But if it lasts the summer it only takes a couple of turns of the screws to unmount the whole line and pop it indoors for the winter to hopefully make it last longer. All in all how can you complain for such a cheap price!

It's a washing line. Simple.
You reel it out and peg your clothes on to dry. There's nothing much else to it.As with anything, I'm sure over time there will be some wear and tear. But if used correctly I'm sure it will last longer than some of the reviews posted.Broken brackets, frayed line, washing on the floor.Don't over load it or run it to the max length. Use a line prop to take the weight of the main reel and don't wrap the line round objects or items which may cause damage to the line itself. Quick to put the line away when not in use and it takes two seconds to take down and store for Autumn and Winter if you don't want to leave it out to the elements. The last one we had was a cheap and cheerful reel line from Sainsbury's and it was £8. It lasted 6 years. This one is much sturdier. Thick plastic and one of the reasons I purchased was the thickness of the cleat at the bottom. So many others are very thin and that's the part that breaks. The line isn't that thick, it's just a standard corded line, no wire core. But it's the same as our previous. Hey as long as I can peg clothes on it I'm happy. If it lasts the next few Spring and Summers, I'll be happy.

Convenient and Sturdy: Vileda Cordomatic Retractable Washing Line Review
I recently upgraded my laundry setup with the Vileda Cordomatic Retractable Washing Line, and it has been a game-changer for drying clothes outdoors. Here’s why I highly recommend this product:The 15m retractable line provides ample space for hanging a significant amount of laundry. Whether it's sheets, towels, or everyday clothing, the generous length accommodates all my drying needs. This makes it perfect for families or anyone with a high volume of laundry. One of the standout features is its retractable design. When not in use, the line neatly retracts into the casing, keeping it clean and tangle-free. This is a huge plus for maintaining a tidy outdoor space and avoiding the mess of a permanently strung clothesline.Installation was straightforward. The unit comes with all necessary mounting hardware, and I had it securely attached to the wall in no time. The robust construction ensures that the line stays taut and doesn’t sag, even when loaded with wet clothes. The build quality is impressive. The Vileda Cordomatic is designed to withstand outdoor elements, with a durable casing that protects the line from weather damage. This durability means it will last through many seasons, providing reliable service for years to come.Using the line is effortless. It extends smoothly and locks in place securely. When I’m done with the laundry, it retracts just as easily, making the entire process hassle-free. The ease of use is particularly appreciated on busy days when every minute counts. In summary, the Vileda Cordomatic Retractable Washing Line is a practical, durable, and convenient solution for outdoor laundry drying. Its ample length, easy installation, and retractable feature make it a superior choice for any household. If you’re looking for a reliable way to dry your clothes outdoors, this washing line is an excellent investment. Highly recommended!

Easy to install and use
Relatively easy to fit. Easy to pull out and fix the clothes line. Easy to unhook it and it winds the line in automatically

Its a clothes line. It retracts. It also stretches.
Its a clothes line. It retracts.Ah but the detail matters. The line is plastic, so it stretches quite a bit when you put washing on it, so be careful to mount it high otherwise you will find your washing needs washing again when it hits the ground. We can use the whole length in our tiny garden but don't as it just isn't practical as the line stretches too much. There is a lug for you to wrap the line around but even when you pre-tension the line it stretches quite a bit.So why 4*? It is easy to mount, unobtrusive and after a few months it still unrolls and rolls up nicely despite having been left out a few times. But the line stretches when you put the clothes on and that is a real pain. It requires tensioning too much.*UPDATE* 4 years later and the price has gone up by 70p. The line is now white as the red colour has bleached by the sun. We leave the line out quite a bit but it still reels back in, with a little help sometimes when its been open for a few days (weeks!). The stretching is less of a problem now, probably because its all stretched out as far as it can.
