Instantly reduced a 4GB file transfer from 20 min to 3 seconds
Using this to my 10GB upgraded Synolody disk for direct access on my macbook pro. This has literally and instantly reduced a 4GB file transfer from 20 min to 3 seconds in a heart beat. Amazing piece of equipment and for those out there who have a NAS Diskstation and would like to enjoy a fast local access... go for it.The only point I would like to add is that it does warm a bit but I would have to leave it on for sometime to be able to provide an accurate feedback regarding this.

great piece of technology, watch for drivers
great item once you get it running! make sure to get the latest drivers (aquantia_aqtion_x64_win_ver2.1.004.0) from the sonnet support page, even if you have win10 running! you wont get it working without.

3 years+ of faultless 24/7 use
A totally reliable 10GbE adaptor. Mine links a Mac mini to my 10GbE switch - the Mac is my main server so this device runs 24/7 and has done so with zero downtime. It has run with zero intervention through Mac updates and various network topology changes.A star is lost as the unit runs rather toasty. Mine lives in an enclosed network rack and is attached to a metal panel via an adhesive magnetic strip attached to the adaptor's base, which also wicks away some of the heat. Given the usage it must have been built with these temps in mind.

Works great but gets very hot.
This works flawlessly with my 2018 MacBook Pro, but keep it well ventilated because it does get hot.

Does not work
This is the 2nd 10gbe add on I have bought. First one was a QNAP one (returned), that got returned because the fan was just too loud. Then this one I got working. Tested it out using a small single 2gb file, that was fast. I thought great, this is going to work. But sadly, when I try to do anything more, it just falls over - transferring 2GB worth of small files (10s of thousands), or running Time Machine with 18gb of data to backup to a NAS (connected to a 10gbe switch and two NICs). Looks like this one is going back too. Lesson learnt, next time configure the MacMini with 10gbe from factory.

Great when it works, but runs really hot and disconnects if you breathe on the cable.
It really does provide the claimed speeds, just not always. It's also passively cooled, which is great for silent use but it runs REALLY hot. You could probably use it as a cup warmer for your coffee. The TB3 connector is really sensitive - you can lightly brush against it when unplugging an adjacent cable and it drops the connection - at first I thought it might be the TB3 port on the motherboard, but I've tested it with other devices and cables and it works fine, even with a bit of (relatively) rough handling. It's bloody infuriating - I'm considering returning it.

Cable too short, and connector too loose
Much like one of the other reviews (from Batfoy), the Thunderbolt connector is loose and just a slight movement of the unit is enough for the Thunderbolt connection to be lost. And the length of the Thunderbolt cable, which is around 6 inches or 15 cm, doesn't help with positioning the unit to provide the least stress on the connector to avoid the disconnections. When it works, it does seem to be at 10 Gb/s speed but the constant disconnections hasn't let me properly test the unit. Very poor for such an expensive purchase. Would not recommend. Avoid.Update: I purchased a Belkin 0.8m cable to replace the one attached to the unit. I removed the endplate to do so. The new cable is thicker than the old cable so the cable hole on the endplate will need to be enlarged if you want to reattach it; for the time being I'm not reattaching the endplate. But the new setup is working perfectly now with no disconnections.
