Very dependable unit at a fair price.
Exactly the correct replacement for whole house surge protector. Old unit was same mfr and lasted 21 years. We feel reasonably safe with this unit as it protects against power surges from your utility company and lightening strikes of up to100,000 amps. The average direct lightening strike in central Florida is approx. 30,000 amps but can vary greatly. Within its capacity and proper installation the mfr will cover damages up to $7,500. It also is quite easy to install; but first be sure to switch off power at the main panel which cuts off all power incoming from the utility company. Caution, before touching any wires in the main panel, use a volt meter or amp meter to be sure incoming electricity is dead. If you are inexperienced around electrical house circuits, DO NOT DIY!! CALL A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN. ITS WORTH YOUR LIFE!!!

Great Solution for a Modern Problem
Our city requires these on ALL service upgrades as of Jan 2023. For a little more than a hundred bucks, I think it is well worth it! With all the Utility issues - some their fault, some just a problem with our modern day power grid. - this is a good solution. I have used Intermatic products for over 40 years and they have always been the best answer. I see a lot of other units, some by companies I also know, but this one seem to be the easiest to install and cover the most situations. And take a look at their warranty!

Very glad for the protection
I am one who likes to care for my tools and equipment, so was delighted to stumble upon this device for my home's electrical system. Combined with State Farm's provision of the Ting monitoring device and service, I now have an excellent monitoring set up.Follow the wise directions for safety given by the experts who have generously shared their knowledge, and wiring is straight forward IF you have the spaces available in your breaker box on both your neutral bus bar/ground bus bar; AND two spaces for a 2 pole 20 amp circuit breaker for the 2 hot wires. Two details I want to add: measure the 4 leads on the device and where you will attach then in the box. The directions recommend AGAINST bending the leads sharply at a 90 degree angle in the box. They prefer a gradual 4 inch curve. My leads barely reached the open spots on the neutral bus bar. You may need to do some shifting of existing leads to open up spots closer to the device. Also, I used a 3 " long piece of 'offset' PVC conduit, a female end and a male end to attach the device to the knockout on my box, which ate up some of the lead length. But that avoided the need to sink anchors into my basement concrete wall to support the device by its ears.I had to connect the device to the left side of my box for my open spots, which made the device's label upside down. Thankfully, that label is tough plastic, so I peeled it off and flipped it so it is right reading.

I put one of these in my first home, and now my new home soon.
This works for spikes and brownouts and also I believe helps balance the load in the panel, helping reduce your electric bill. It seemed to work that way for me. So I bought another one for my new home. But it definitely helps with surges and spikes. Highly recommended.

Installed now to see.
It took about 20 minutes to install, most of that was spent finding tools, and verifying the layout of my panel. Basically It involved screwing the neutral and ground into bus terminals, and the 2 lead wires into opposite "sides" of the 220V service via 20A breakers. Not sure how to tell if it helps, I guess if I stop seeing dead electronics devices after 5 or 6 months! Anyway the green light is on (and its bright too let me tell you) so I must be safe now.Instructions were a simple basic diagram. Fine for someone who knows their way around electronics etc. If you don't already know your way, you probably shouldn't be installing this, so I don't think this is a problem. but it definitely could have been a bit nicer looking documentation, 1 star off. Will update in time If I remember.

Protection piece of mind
This is my second purchase of this whole home surge protector. The first one lasted many yearslike 12 or so. Had a lightning bolt hit about 100 ft from the house. No equipment was damaged but needed to replace this unit with a second one

Great for decades
Yes, I have most of my electronics individually protected through the surge suppressors on the extension cords, but really...there's so much electronics in today's household that could benefit from protection that this just makes a lot of sense.Spring summer and winter storms are accompanied by lightening and we're at the end of a rural power grid or should I say storm induced power spike antenna...Needed one desperatley when we lived in Texas...finally grew up and got one now that we live in Tennessee and it will be the first thing we install in any future home...

Easy install and reliable.
Installed one 11 years ago and just recently a power surge fried it. It saved all the electronics in my home that is why I decided to replace it with the same model.
