A functional, reliable kitchen tool that does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Remember the old hand held metal rotary cheese graters? They worked, worked for years, until they broke or rusted or got smashed in a drawer. Now imagine the simplicity and functionality of that tool redesigned into a model that will stick to the counter and do the same job. THAT is what this tool is. It works, it works well, it works without you having to simultaneously squeeze the handles of an old grater while you turn the crank because it is securely anchored to your countertop. Because of the less than stellar reviews the machine had received, I went another direction and bought a different machine. Which I returned because, guess what, it wouldn't grate parmesan. This one does. Again and again and again. And the lovely little crumbs of dry parmesan tumble out of the chute into a bowl without any problem. Cleans well in hot water and a little soap, takes up almost no space in my cabinet. It is simple. It works. It is, after all, a TOOL, a kitchen tool, not a show piece, not a high dollar prestige item, but a remarkably effective tool doing the job it was designed to do. Want fresh grated parmesan? Give this tool a shot. (Oh, and it works wonderfully on hard veggies, using the other rotary cutters. There's a bonus for you.)

I wanted to love this
UPDATED 12/09/20 As predicted this snapped in half the last time I used, the welded parts detached. I used this maybe twice a month for a year for parmesan, very disappointing. (The first few uses of this grater were good, but soon the suction stopped working, you have to click the handle down constantly during grating to reengage it. I find this works best for hard cheese like parmesan but it is terrible for cheddar, basically it clumps up. I wanted to love this simple mostly non-plastic grater but it soon got wobbly, it's a matter of time before the top comes detached from the base.)

Best Grater I've had so far
This is a nice grater...easy to take apart and clean, easy to use and the suction works pretty well. The only improvement I would make is to have the lip a bit larger and the device sit a bit higher so that a bowl can be slipped under the lip.

Perfect for hard spices and nuts
To those who write negative reviews on this grater: it was designed not for grating cheese (despite the vendor decided to mention cheese when naming it). Except maybe for the hard and very dry sorts of cheese. The grater is intended for grinding either hard nuts or dry and brittle chunks of spices. All the drums in this set are designed for scratching rather than peeling or cutting etc. I use this thing for grinding nutmegs and dried avocado seeds. The drums are very good, made wholly of thick stainless steel, no plastics. They are of small diameter but it just adds to their sturdiness. I had bad experience with my previous grater of czeck origin because the drums were made of soft steel and had very too large diameter, so they quickly got indented and lost their shape.

You can't make slaw
I like the build and how sturdy it feels. It'll stay in place no problem. Probably won't break like the plastic ones. My only real issue is it can't chip cabbage for slaw. It's fine for cheese however. I would just like a larger cutting head to make slaw as well. The cheap plastic ones do everything this does and slaw. The problem with those is they break easily. So if you just want to do cheese and nuts this is a great choice. If you need to do larger shredding this one won't work. Unless there is a difference cutting head available. Then it would be the perfect choice for everyone.

Great for nutmeg but what kind of maniac is grating cheese with this?!
So, this is replacing a 10 year old Cuisinart grater that I couldn't find a replacement for online. Grater is a grater, right? Read some reviews and people seemed to come to the same conclusion: it's solid, a few design flaws (the handle can get tight), but otherwise usable.I mean no disrespect, but I have a feeling these people haven't used a grater before.I attempted to grate some hard cheese, and for small amounts it worked OK. Then I moved on to grating a little more, and that's where the main design flaw is VERY apparent. The grating drum is not tilted at all, so anymore than a small amount will get compacted in the grating drum. We're talking 1oz of cheese, it's not like I'm cramming a block in there and getting shocked things didn't work right. This was significantly slower (and worse) than using a standard box grater.Worked famously with nutmeg and serviceable with ginger, but anything else and the drum crowding issue became apparent. Also - while the grating drums are certainly stainless steel the actual grater itself is plastic. It does say in the description made of "100% Stainless steel and ABS" (ABS is a plastic polymer), it can be a little misleading and very easy to assume that the body is made of Stainless and the handles are ABS. But no. Drums Stainless, everything else plastic.I will say that this product sticks to surfaces fantastically. If I needed to grate small amounts of very hard nuts I'd be super happy with this. Anything else though, maybe take a hard pass and look for something with a slanted drum.

I'm impressed!
I used to grind spices by hand. Then came the holidays. One year I made homemade baklava and everyone this year wanted baklava instead of presents. Also friends wanted baklava for company parties (these would be paid for). Not wanting to have Popeye arms, I ordered this grinder and gave it a test run. It stuck like it was welded to the countertop. Very easy to assemble just insert drum, screw on handle and away you go! First spice was cloves. The grinder was smooth and easily processed the cloves with very little effort, same with cinnamon. My motor and pistel are now kitchen decor and I have more time for other holiday activities.
