Practical Statistics for Data Scientists

Its bigger than Think Stats. Just like Think Stats, this book is also completely writen in python, which makes the model undestandable to programmers but non programmer might wanna take a python course before starting this book. I wanted a book from a statistician's point of view and this book gives me exactly that. It covers every topic in convienient detail not leaving many lose ends. This book is slightly bigger and needs a little more time to finish but is definitely a good place to start for programmers.

I can recommend this book to anyone who is stepping into the field of 'Data Science' and needs to brush up their skills of elementary statistics besides a brief introduction to more advanced areas and concepts of the same utilized in machine learning techniques.The code snippets are in the 'R' language and unlike Python, R can be much more verbose and difficult to grasp. Fortunately in my case, I was a little familiar with R already but I have to say this also makes it a little hard to recommend if someone doesn't have time to learn a whole new programming language.Regarding the quality of the book, the paper is decent at best and might get spoiled easily if you are fond of using a highlighter. Graphs are also usually not very useful because not only is the book grayscale but the images themselves are quite pixelated.Overall definitely not a must have book but cant say it is useless either, at least it wasn't for me. For more specific areas of 'Data Science' definitely better resources exist.

somehow the readability is not good to the context, i was in middle of solving few data related problems with time series uncertainty related distributions and bought this book to solve by getting appropriate concept. i read half of the book and lost interest. Just have a read of couple of pages if you get chance before purchasing.

Good book clearly differentiate the terminology in statistics and data scientists. And also show the relation between the two. It is very good with the way the content are organized in the book with key terms, notes and caution.The only thing I think it lag is no exercise at the end of each section. It would be helpful if there were some exercise at the end of each section. There were few typo(minor only) in the book that need correction.

If you are a beginner, this is not the book for you. But if you already know the concepts and need a refresher, this is exactly what you are looking for. Very crisp explanations.

Excellent book to start with ... first learn basic statistics and then learn R or Python

The book very well covers the basics with special focus on data science. It also demonstrate the concepts using the R codes.

Eine oberflächliche kurze Darstellung diverser statistischer Methoden ohne auf die Details/Formeln groß einzugehen sofern diese denn gegeben sind. Jedes Thema enthält zwar Referenzen auf weiterführende Bücher/Quellen, allerdings ist dieses Buch somit alles andere als Praktisch. Der R-Code ist auch nur obligatorisch und nicht mal sauber formatiert.Kurzum: Das Buch ist nicht mehr als ein Glossar, der die Methoden anreist und fast gar nicht gegeneinander Vergleicht. Mit Google wird man wesentlich besser informiert.Vor allem richtet sich dieses Buch an Data Scientists und Leute die schon mal mit R. gearbeitet haben. Wer das bereits hat, der braucht dieses Buch nicht!Schreibstil: Trocken, repetitiv und viele Vorwärts- und -Rückwärtsverweise.Von daher keine Empfehlung!

Bom, mas um pouco confuso às vezes. Focado em "prática", realmente, cita várias referências, mas não cobre algumas técnicas comuns e falta uma abordagem mais metodológica.

I bought this book after I was excited reading the online version on Safari. Since, the book has a lot of graphics and R codes, I expected it to be in colour. I had previously purchased ‘R for Data Science’ and was very happy with the colourful layout and presentation. I definitely recommend this book as a great read; however if you have access to Safari, you really don’t need this version of the book.
