Since this Unifying receiver is sold individually, you will need to download software to pair it with your Unifying devices.
This Logitech "Unifying" USB dongle for Logitech wireless keyboards and mice is sold by Fox Deals in San Jose, California. It was packaged in an unmarked plastic bag so I don't know where it was manufactured. The product advertising and invoice state that it is a new dongle, but there is no way of verifying that. As far as I know, a Logitech Unifying receiver (marked with an orange star logo) such as this one can connect to any Logitech Unifying device which is also marked with an orange star logo. So look on the back of your keyboard or mouse, if you see the orange star logo, then this receiver should work. (Note that this receiver will NOT work with Logitech Harmony (infrared) devices or Logitech Nano wireless devices.) The concept of the Logitech Unifying receivers, which operate in the 2.4 GHz radio band, is similar to (but not compatible with) Bluetooth devices. Up to six wireless Unifying devices can connect (be paired with) a single Unifying receiver. If you buy a Unifying device that is packaged with the dongle then the two will already be paired and you can simply plug it in and the device will work. However, if you are replacing a lost or damaged receiver, then you will need to download software to "pair" it with your Unifying devices. Accordingly, since this receiver is being sold individually, then you will have to install software on your computer to get it working. Pairing software for Windows and Mac OS X can be downloaded from the Logitech website. For those of you like me who use Linux, you will need to install Solaar. There is a PPA for Ubuntu and Linux Mint and, as of this writing, packages for Debian, Gentoo, OpenSUSE, and Arch Linux on the Solaar website. In addition, Solaar will also work with some of the Logitech Nano receivers. Anyway, I installed Solaar, plugged in the receiver, and paired my mouse and keyboard. It works like a charm...five stars.

Not compatible as advertised
This clearly was not compatible with the keyboard and mouse as advertised by Amazon. I am having to return it this week.

everything works great. Look for the numbers to match them up ...
Initially it did not work. I looked through some other reviews to see if it was something simple. It was. Go to Logitech website search for the pairing download and go. I did the mouse and the keyboard separately so I had to download it twice. I did the mouse first successfully but the keyboard would not work. I did the down load again with the keyboard, everything works great. Look for the numbers to match them up but it does explain that the orange star is what to look for. If it has it, they should be able to pair with each other. My keyboard letter, before the number was not exact but my mouse was. They both work.

Do something!
I definitely love this receiver. However, I bought a new one in March 2015 and for no apparent reason it just stopped working. I was extremely disappointed in the tech help of your company. I was on hold for 45 min the first time and the tech put me on hold to go find out how to trouble shoot my problem and then disconnected our call. No call back so I tried again and the next tech seemed trained and 1 hour and 45 min later she said it was broke! For 2 1/2 hours of my time I should have just bought a new one without wasting my time.

Does Not work with an M317c
So before buying this i asked a question on here if it worked with my mouse. There were many responses that said yes. well let me tell you it does not so if you have a mouse that is M317c it does not work. it would have been simple to say flip the mouse over and if there is the little logitech red star this usb will work if it doesn't then carry on with your search. if it did say that i clearly didn't read it overall it's pretty easy to install i do have another mouse that does have that star and it worked and connected just fine that's why i gave it the three stars

Great convenience
Okay, let me start off by saying that I love this product. Now let me tell you why I took a star off, and that's because even though it was supposed to be plug and play, it wasn't. I had to go old school and find an USB keyboard and mouse, download and install the software and then add the devices I wanted to use with this baby, after than all was well. The directions promised one thing, reality was another, so it was a bit more work to accomplish getting this up and running, so my expectations were based on what I was led to believe. Not a big thing, but a bit annoying, so I took a star off my rating. I still highly recommend this dongle. Make sure it works with the devices you intend on using it with. I bought this to replace a unit I misplaced during a recent move. I like the fact that the software also gives you the status of the batteries, that's a nice feature that I wasn't aware of before (as I don't think I actually had the software installed to use with my previous unit, it worked without it). I also like the fact that I can use this with up to six devices, which means several keyboards and mice, which is nice as I tend to carry them from room to room and now I don't have to worry about having the correct one for the computer I'm using as they'll all work with this unit. Nice!

works fine.
Worked just fine. I will note though that your Logitech mouse and/or keyboard must have the orange star 'unifying' mark. Once you receive your dongle you have to download the unifying software from the logitech website to connect your devices to it. Something that took me forever to figure out and I'm not sure if it is just me but this fact was not blaringly obvious anywhere on the internet and took me a minute to figure out...
