KING RANDOR - Eternos Palace Real Name: Randor of the House of Miro Shortly after his father was thrown into Despondos. by Count Marzo, Randor's older brother was banished from the Royal Palace, leaving Eternias without a king. Randor continued to act as Captain of the Guard, leading the royal armies against their enemies, including Keldor, who had returned from exile with an army of outcasts and escaped convicts. Finally besting Keldor in single combat, Randor mortally wounded his half-brother and ordered a mystic wall erected to keep him and his warriors magically bound to the Dark Hemisphere. For ending the Great Unrest, the Council of Elders agreed to set aside Eternian laws of kingship and gave Randor the crown, despite not being the first born. King Randor heroically raises his staff, declaring his rule over all Eternias. Perfect for any MOTU fan or collector! - Fully Poseable Action Figure! - Collect them all! - Mattel 2012 No. W8897 - For the adult collector.

Gorgeous!
King Randor looks more like his cartoon self than any other MOTU figure I have yet seen! His necklace and goblet are in a beautiful "gold" plate - a very nice touch! Outside of this, he is everything we have come to expect of Mattel's MOTU Classics line - which has been nothing short of amazing!

one attired like the Filmation cartoon This is the one attired like ...
There are two versions of King Randor. One in regal armor, one attired like the Filmation cartoon This is the one attired like the Filmation cartoon. A worthwhile purchase, especially if you have Prince Adam and Captain Glenn (or Queen Marlenna) as it completes the family.

King Randor of Eternos Palace!
For many He-Fans (myself included), the definitive version of King Randor is the jolly old character from the beloved Filmation cartoon; and Mattel has finally delivered this fan-demanded character in all his regal splendor. The bright colors of his royal garb are really popping, looking like he just stepped out of the cartoon. Perhaps the best thing about this figure (in my opinion) is the large golden goblet accessory. The shininess of the vac-metal only adds to it's grandeur. A pity he didn't come with a Whopp- uh, hamburger, on a matching platter; now that would have been a worthy accessory! With Prince Adam, Queen Marlena, Cringer and now the Filmation-esque King Randor, we're well on our way to having a Lou Scheimer approved Royal Family. Long live the King!!

A variant of King Randor that falls flat because of design choices
King Randor, the father of Adam and Adora, was a pretty prominent character in most of the MOTU media, especially the Filmation animated series. While we have already seen a Randor modeled after the vintage figure in the MOTUC line, this is Mattel's attempt at producing a more regal Randor modeled after his appearance in the Filmation cartoon. No one can blame Mattel for attempting this version of Randor as it is an extremely iconic look for the character. Unfortunately, though, a few minor design decisions really bring this figure down for me. This is in no way an attack on the Filmation series, as I own it on DVD and watch it fairly often, but is just my impressions on a figure that I believe Mattel failed to successfully integrate into the MOTUC style. Here's a look at King Randor:The Facts:Articulation- ankle hinges with some lateral movement, hinged knees, thigh swivels, balljointed hips, swivel waist, ab hinge, peg/post ball jointed shoulders, elbow hinges, swivel wrists, ball jointed head.Accessories- goblet, spear, necklace, cloak (although sleeves are sculpted). The positives:* For being a variant of an already existing character, Mattel really did put some effort into this figure. Randor's upper arms are new pieces that simulate a very fancy cloak. He also has new feet.*Randor also comes with a number of accessories: a spear, a necklace, and a goblet. The goblet is quite nice as it is vacmetallized on the outside and looks like it is filled with a liquid of some sort. The necklace is a plastic piece on a cloth cord of some sort.*I didn't notice any QC issues on my figure. Everything looks fine and in order. The negatives:*Ok, here it goes. My first problem is with the way Mattel interpreted the simpler Filmation design into MOTUC. While Mattel has always argued that every figure had to be put through the "classicizer machine" (Matttel's term, not mine) in order to ensure that a coherent style was followed, Randor seems to somehow have bypassed this step. Next to other more detailed characters, Randor looks overly simple. I think the most obvious example of this problem is the fact that the "gold" objects are not painted with a metallic gold paint, like every other character in the line, but they are simply painted yellow. Standing Randor next to Marlena: she has gold decorations while his are yellow. Obviously this is because Filmation used yellow rather than gold in their animation but it certainly makes the figure standout amongst its peers, and not in a good way.*Secondly, Randor's necklace just won't sit properly on his body. If you remove the clear rubber band that held it on originally, you're going to be fighting with this thing non stop. I like that Mattel used an actual cloth material for the chain, but it doesn't seem to work here.*The arm articulation on Randor is really hindered. First it is hindered because Mattel chose to give Randor no bicep swivel. He can't be posed drinking from his cup. Second, his shoulder joints are either really tight or are hindered by his poofy sleeves. I can't get much movement out of him. Of course, because of his cloak and tunic he is unable to sit on a throne, as well.Overall: Randor was a great idea but his execution leaves a lot to be desired. Besides the articulation issues, I really just don't feel like he fits in all that well with the MOTUC figures due to some paint and style choices. I know many fans were waiting for him to be released and some love him. Still, for as much effort as Mattel seems to have put into making him a unique variant, I feel like there were too many bad decisions to make him anything but average.
