Effective & Affordable But Challenging To Get Professional Looking Results

Used it to coat a gold plated ball on a telescoping flagpole outdoors. Gold wore off previous ball after just 2 winters. Applied it thick with a tiny plumber's acid brush but it is runny. Caught the runs. Felt like applying thick fingernail polish. You can't really just keep stroking it with the paint brush or you affect the gloss finish. Strokes will show. Have to try to apply it a little at a time with minimal overlapping strokes. Tuff to do that because you then have to overlap strokes. Best I can say is you need a technique to apply it fast & thick & without runs. The first coat was self leveling when I looked at it the next morning. Applied a second coat the second day. Checked it next morning and found bugs got stuck in it. The ball is 20 feet in the air when the pole is extended. Can't tell from the ground it has been coated. I will need to check it every spring now to watch if it needs touchup, a new coat or if black mold or other discolorization develops under it.Had a lot of difficulty opening the can. Using a paint can opener ruined the cover -- bent & not usable. Poured the contents into a small jar but next morning the surface of the liquid had dried forming a thin seal. Got the seal removed by poking it with the end of the handle of an old plumber's acid paint brush that I used to stir the product and used a disposable vinyl glove under the cover hoping that keeps the jar airtight. Jar cover has it's own seal. Wondering if just the available air in the little jar was enough to cause the top of the fluid to dry. Do not shake product or cause any bubbles in it.I find this product difficult to get a professional looking clearcoat finish. The photo shows it dries sort of like textured so you do not maintain the metal's perfect mirror-like finish. Not an issue for this ball because it is viewed from the ground and it's 20 feet in the air. Just want to maintain it's gold color and bright reflection in the direct sun. Have 3 fancy brass exterior door knobs that must be sealed before I install them. Why would a door knob manufacturer not seal their product? Who wants to install a beautiful polished brass knob only to have it discolor so badly? I am going to look for and test a different product for the door knobs. Chose this sealer product because of so many challenges people faced in reviews of other products plus I only needed a small amount of product. Not going to be easy to find a professional quality product for home use.

survives the test of time and stands up to weather outdoors

I only chose to use Clear Shot on an old garden bench I was restoring a few years ago because a good portion of the bench was made from metal and it was rusty. I also have had great results with all Rust Bullet coatings since I discovered their products several years ago. I live close to the beach in San Francisco and Rust Bullet has become my #1 product for rust on my 110-year-old home.I fully stand behind Clear Shot since it has stood up to the elements for over three years and my bench always looks clean (see photo). That's the best thing about Clear Shot is that dirt doesn't seem to stick to it and mold never grows on it. I used some Spar Urethane from the Home Depot on some other outdoor furniture as well as my garage door and it absolutely sucks. It has flaked and faded and mold has grown on it while the bench that was painted with Clear Shot looks as good as it did when the work was done. Eventually I will have to restore the other furniture again and will be sure to use Clear Shot on everything.I am also including a photo of a very rusty metal shelving unit that was painted with Rust Bullet and topped with Clear Shot. No rust has returned yet and the work was done 2-3 years ago.

Expensive but hopefully it works.

I used this to seal the drip rails on an old Jeep Cherokee XJ. There was a bit of surface rust starting to form. I prepared it by washing using a fairly stiff bristle brush. The rust was not bad and no where near flaking. I then masked the area to be coated and then applied the Rust Bullet using a small artist paint brush. I have used similar products made by POR 15 over thirty years ago which are still holding up ok. I expect this to work as well but won't be around to know.Lol.

Great protection against rust!

This stuff is great. A little clean up with a wire brush on rusted areas on vehicle frames, brush this stuff on and you have a hard coating that protects areas prone to rust. It is thin so a little goes a long way and can run if to much is applied on a vertical surface. The first time I used this was on a 1950s pedal Jeep about 6 years ago. I wanted it out front of my house, so it would be prone to being in the elements. It worked so well I decided to put it on my real jeep. It did a great job of stopping the rust.
