read this review... irony
My 1st impression.. As I took it from the foam "coffin" my fingers tapping on the guitar, well I knew thatit was going to have "that" sound and I wasn't wrong.. Cons.. as another reviewer said.. the tuners feel cheap and will escape longevity.. also I think the truss rod needs a twist but I won't do it as not to void the return policy. can't notice it much on slide because thats like whistling .. making adjustments automatically for the right pitch but because I finger pick along with slidin" good intonation is needed. In a nutshell, the sound is worth much more then the price of this resonator but the actual guitar is priced fairly... As others have said, its a players guitar with a nice shaped neck.. I never wanted an acoustic that was wired for sound.. The guitar has that nice delta sound unplugged.. really nice.. but when I plugged it in, it sounded thin, no matter what the amps were set too..I tried it thru my ProSonus single channel pre/compressor and after a few adjustment, well I'll put it this way. What a beautiful delta sound with tremendous sustain and overtones... what a pleasant surprise coming from my nice monitors.I'm thinkin, "is that me?" I have two other resonators and this Gretsch is my new best friend.. hate to put it sown.. different open tunings bring forth some nice surprises. it has its own merit.. I been a guitarist for a long time and think I am only fair, but this guitar really almost seems intuitive The sound id not a "beginner" resonator sound, it's great and even makes me seem like I can play! ..UPDATE.. Irony, I mentioned the tuners "seemed cheap" .. well, one tuner went bad, wouldn't stay put, so I returned it with a new non-electric purchased and delivered. (Amazon were great in helping through the process).. Could be my imagination but this "new" one's tuners feel stronger. I didn't replace it with one with electronics.. The electronics were fine but just not my style., but I do really enjoy this resonator... Here's hoping this one stays solid..

I'm Glad I Bought This Guitar
I've had this guitar for about a month now, and it's a whole lot better than I expected, and a lot of fun. I've been playing guitar for more than 45 yrs, and have owned a whole bunch of different ones - both electric and acoustic. I found a Guild D25 35 yrs ago that has the tone and sound I love - it's a keeper. But, I've been looking for a blues guitar with nice sound to learn to play in my old age. This guitar is amazing for the money. The sound is outstanding, but I keep in mind that it's my first resonator. The sound is crisp and sharp, the neck is way easy to play - it's 12 frets to the body, and let me say it again, easy to play.I love the sound when picking close to the resonator. Also, picking on the neck brings a very nice softer sound. I'm only playing in regular guitar tuning, no open tuning. Finger picking now, no slide, just want to see what it and I can do. My wife really likes the sound and keeps saying how good it sounds. The strings are a little high right now, and I will set them a touch lower.I read all the reviews for the g9220 before buying it...not just on Amazon, but every website on the net. And, I decided to get it. Totally glad I did.I bought a Gator Journeyman GW-JM case for it a week ago and it fits very nicely. I reviewed it also.My first Gretsch. I'm a sucker for the "G" guitars. I've had a Gibson, have a Guild and now a Gretsch, and am already thinking about a Godin 5th Avenue.

A Guitar that's well worth the money...
OK... I am a big Gretsch Fan, to start with. Since I first saw Chet Atkins play his Gretsch many years ago on He-Haw, I've wanted one. I started by buying a G5120 DC, a few years ago, and loved it. I've been wanting a Resonator for years, but they were either so cheap and low quality, or super quality but very expensive. This Bobtail is right there in the middle. The build quality is fantastic. It came with D'addario strings. It was packed really good in a form fitting Styrofoam carton and then boxed in a Gretsch Box. It was already strung, and dang near in tune. Just a few turns of the tuning pegs and I was picking and grinning away. The guitar has a nice crisp tone. The fretboard clearance was not too high, and not too low. The only thing (and this is not exactly a drawback) is that it is not quite as large as you think. To me it is a nice size, that I can play it while sitting at my desk. I like to noodle a bit when I am tinkering at the computer. The sound is definitely louder than a steel strung flat top, and has a nice resonator ring to it, but is not buzzy, or overly reverbatory. I hope this helps you decide to buy it, if you're waffling over the decision. It's way better than a Johnson, or an Oscar Schmidt, or some of the knock off's you'd find on eBay. On top of all that the price is fantastic, and you get a quality instrument. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Solid Guitar
I'm quite pleased with this guitar because:-Didn't have a scratch on it when it arrived.-The intonation is very good; it stays in tune.-It feels solidly constructed.-It looks beautiful.-It sounds like a resonator and plays like a typical acoustic.10/10 would recommend.
