An Outstanding Short History of Rome!!
The book was a concise history of Ancient Rome. It provides an exceptional, straight forward account of the major events that occured during the near 1500 years existence of Rome and its influnce on Western Civilization. Rome was founded In legend in 753 BCE, by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. The Republic of Rome was founded in 509 BCE and during its 500 year existence conquered most of tthe known world. The republic died with Juleus Caesar's assination in 44 BCE, giving way to the power and grandure of the Roman Empire. The empire held dominum over the ancient world for another 500 years. The Roman Empire is alleged to have fallen in 476 CE. The legacy of ancient Rome continues to live on today. This book was professionally researched from numerous primary and secondary sources, written, and published by Hourly History. This publishing house has produced an extensive collection of thoroughly researched, concise, informative, and well written historical texts purposfully designed to be read in one to two hours. This historical collection is focused on chronicaling the lives of important historical persons, key events, nations, and peoples. I have read a number of their offerings and found each volume well written, researched, informative and presented with an unbiased perspective. The Roman legacy to the western world is evident nearly everywhere you care to look. The arts, architecture, languages, philosophy, laws, govermental structure, and even amenities of daily life such as running water, indoor plumbing, roads, structure construction techniques, and city design. Roman influnce is particularly evident in the United States (US). The US is a republic modeled by its founders after Rome, and stands today as the formost world power. Is it possible that Rome’s legacy for what lies ahead for the US is linked to not only the glory, but also the decline and fall of that ancient republic. This book was well researched and written. It was a joy to read. I appreciated that the material was presented in a easily digestible and well written manner. The narrative was engaging and enjoyable. The text described the history of Rome and its influnce on the modern world in a remarkably clear and understandable manner. Readers who enjoy history and biographies, or those who are interested in knowing more about Ancient Rome will enjoy this book.

A Millennia in an Hour
Trying to cover 1,000 years of Roman history in Avery short, easy to read book is a tough undertaking. This is a good introduction to Roman history, readable in an hour. Covering the legend of Rome’s founding to its fall, you get enough to appreciate the scope of Rome and some breadcrumbs to study more.

An easy to read and enjoyable scholarly history
One of the great free items on the internet are the scholarly but easy to read Hourly History books. Every Friday, if you subscribe as I do, we are sent about four free history books, such as this one about ancient Rome. I think that everyone should know about Rome, not only because its history is fascinating and stories about parts of the history appears on TV and it is good to have a wide background to what is being presented, but there is much in our culture today, in America and Europe, especially in our laws, that is taken from ancient Rome. In fact, when I went to law school – I am a lawyer – I was advised to take a course that compares Roman and American law, and I did so. It gave me a more in depth understanding of American law. This book tells us much about ancient Rome. We read about Rome’s legendary beginnings, a fascinating fictitious tale, how the country was ruled by the Senate and later by Caesars, some somewhat good and many terrible, the Roman empire, how for a long time Rome ruled the world, Rome’s impact upon Judaism and Christianity, why and how Rome fell, and Rome’s legacy today. It is a good book to get, even if you pay for it.

Awesome! Gave great context to the many aspects of Roman Empire. Very helpful.
Hourly History at its best. I'd always heard about things to do with Ancient Rome - Caesar, Marc Antony, the emperors who went mad, "The Fall of Rome", etc. - but never had a solid timeline or framework for all the information. This was perfect because it was high-level enough you could keep track of all the major phases and events that happened, and in what order, and how one thing lead to another. Now I can go and deep-dive into different, specific periods of time and/or a leader and better understand where it fits into the bigger picture. It was interesting how much influence Ancient Rome has on today's world and society - notion of democracy, religion (Emperor Constatine converted to Christianity and made it the official religion of Rome), road systems, language, phrases we still hear ("crossing the Rubicon", "E tu Brute?").Only very small nit is I would have personally liked to hear more about the "Good Emperors"- they did briefly mentioned Hadrian and Marcus Aurelias - but would have liked to have a bit more on them.Overall, very good, very useful, good narration, highly recommend.
