For the price this is an excellent kit. High quality ferro rod even though it is small. I originally thought this was their larger rod but for the price I should have known. Still a great purchase and worth the money!

I bought 4 of these!The fire steel and striker work better than any small ones I’ve ever owned!The pellets that come with it are easy to light and burn for a long time!There is extra room inside . I put a Bic lighter with duct tape on it and some cotton balls with Vaseline in a tiny zip lock.There’s enough room left to put another snack size zip lock with char cloth too!Fantastic fire starter kit!

The kit works well. The starters work great and everything is intact. One bothersome thing is that the container isn't great - it adds a lot of weight and it doesn't close securely. It's better to omit it and put the contents inside of a resealable plastic bag instead.

I got onto a camping/survival kick this past year and started amassing items for my "bug-out bag", such as this item.I don't really have too much to say, as this is a very straightforward item.The plastic case feels thick, sturdy, and can keep water out. I haven't tried yet, but I'm guessing this will float in water also. You have enough materials included to start many fires and there is a tiny instruction booklet that tells you how to use the items, if you don't know how to use them.Even if you don't believe in prepping for the worst case scenario, this is one item I think everyone should have in case of emergency. Being able to start a fire while being stranded somewhere will undoubtedly save yours and your family's or friends' lives. For only around 10 bucks, I wouldn't even think twice about buying this kit, it's a no-brainer.I searched for a while to find the individual components of this kit at a fair price and nothing comes close to the value of this kit.I will try out this kit soon and update my review with my experience!

The media could not be loaded. This fire starter is completely waterproof. Even if water got into the casing the contents would be fine because they are individually packaged.

This is definitely a good basic fire starter set. The case has room for the included ferro rod fire starter and cotton tinder plugs, some matches, and a small lighter.This would be an excellent gift for a scout when he/she earns their Firem’n Chit.

**edited to add** - upon opening it appears the seal is twisted and bad. The whole point of it being water proof and because of this it's not, disappointingOrdered this kit for my husband for Christmas to go with his survival gear. Oftentimes you can find a good fire starter kit but none of them come with a waterproof case. This is what sold this set for me was the case so that he could keep everything dry no matter what. The fire starter flint itself is a bit cheap but you could easily buy a better one and use the case. Overall very decent products for the price I paid, if you're looking for something to keep your fire equipment dry on a budget definitely give this a try.
