Comic book style
Fortunately there were only positive reviews of this product on Amazon when I decided to order it; there have since been several negative opinions expressed which would have put me off - so I'm glad my timing being good for once. The animation is rendered in a 2D style using 3D technology giving the series a unique look that pays homage to its comic book roots. The dynamic of the lead characters is probably closer to the film adaptation than the Lee/Ditko comic book cannon with leanings also toward Bendis' Ultimate series. Bendis is also heavily involved with the pilot episode. The voice casting is pretty good on the whole with Niel Patrick Harris in the lead role supported by Lisa Loeb and Ian Ziering as MJ and Harry. Guest voices are drawn from all over including former spidey series and an impressive MTV influenced roll call. The action is fast paced and more cinematic than I'd expect. Highlights for me where the Lizard episode and the pilot. The extras are:Audio commentary (for all 13 episodes).Outtake ReelAmazing Spider-facts (like pop up messages during the episodes if you so choose).Three featurettesThe making of the seriesBuilding with layers - multi angle comparisonPhoto gallery3 previsualised clipsFilmographies. The commentaries are an exhaustive and sometimes exhausting technical description of the series creation and realization. Stan Lee injects a welcome dose of relative anarchy to 3 of the commentaries otherwise the commentaries are a little too focused on animation technique considering the target audience of these discs. On the whole a great and often spectacular addition to the long history of Spidey animation. And it's cool - so there!!

Double WOW!!!
This DVD is just terrific. If id have known it was this good i would have bought it years ago.Its a 2 disc package with 13 episodes, around 20mins each with commentary on all of them. Its all computer generated so it may seem a little "blocky" when Peter Parker is interacting with his friends Mary Jane, and Norman Osbourne (that is not a criticism mind you), but as soon as he becomes spider-man it really comes alive. The graphics are just great, the overall look is fantastic and his swinging around town is just the best ive ever seen. The story-lines are fantastically well thought out, well paced, and intriguing, complete with well observed nice touches. The dialogue is sharp, funny, interesting, and brilliantly delivered. And Spider-man has actually got a keen sense of humour which seems to be overlooked in so many other releases. This has obviously been a labour of love by someone who knows spider-man very wellNow for younger viewers there are a couple of "darker moments" which may be a little much. A few killings take place and some of the villians violent intent could be considered unsuitable. But for me i just cant fault it, and especially at this price its an absolute steal. This is the first review ive written, and im forever buying stuff online, and the only reason why im typing this on a saturday afternoon is because i was just so blown away. I cant recommend this dvd highly enough. I hope you enjoy this as much as i did.

Outstanding, though somewhat iffy language for young children
I bought this DVD for my three-year-old son, who, without any prompting from me or seeing anything related to Spiderman on television, somehow became a Spiderman fan.To my surprise, this is really, really good. It is set when Peter Parker is an 18-year old student. In addition to the the usual superhero capers, the series explores bereavement, friendship, bullying, remorse and a "torn between two lovers" scenario. I hope a lot of that is over my son's head and that he sees little more than the Spiderman versus the bad guys (and girls) element. What concerns me more, however, is some of the language including the use of "bitch" and "what the hell!", not phrases I want such a young child to learn and repeat.All-in-all a great DVD. Just be careful, though, if you are primarily buying this for a young child.

Spidey with a strange CGI Cell Shaded look.
If you are looking for the 1960's animated spider man then this is not it. What we have here is a re-imagined spiderman story, in the same way that Smallville is a re-imagining of the superman story. So everyone is now at university in their late teens early twenties and walk around carrying coffee (seriously there are a lot of gratuitous coffee scenes). The cell shading is cool, if just a little dated in modern CGI terms and the stories move at a pace. One problem is with the audio on the DVD which really annoying defaults to dts rather than dolby; meaning it does not work until changed and on my DVD player I have to do this every time. All in all an enjoyable watch if let down a little poor DVD menu and odd defaults.

Fantastic
I was so engrossed with this DVD that I watched four episodes straight off, one after the other. This DVD is worthy of 5 stars solely on the quality on the animation alone. I would award it a further 5 stars on the quality of the story line too.The lady that awarded this DVD only two stars, based on the suitability of her four year old child's viewing, is unfair. The DVD is clearly marked PG. This lady should have given a rating based on her personal opinion of the quality of the DVD, and not one based on sour grapes for buying something not suitable for a toddler.
