Canon LP-E6 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2V, 1800mAh) for EOS - Black

After looking to save a few £, I initially bought 2 of these from a seller on a well known auction site for £30 something... In what appeared to be Canon packaging, and only to realise on delivery that they were NOT genuine Canon, "forgeries". I returned them and received a full refund... Thinking I couldn't be stung again, I ordered one from another ebay seller, in "original" looking plastic packaging with hologram... only for this battery to be a forgery as well. Very clever, but there are a few distinct ways to identify a genuine battery. The +/- next to the edge is in a lighter gray plastic with gold coloured contacts - not black with metal looking contacts. The label wasn't neatly positioned. The 4 character code was 5 characters and upside down. The serial number (when you register the battert in your camera was 7 digits, not 8)... there are other factors but I thought I'd list a few from my recent research.Yes, there are cheap batteries, but to pay good money for a Canon branded battery and find its a fake makes me annoyed. Hahnel and a few other brands, make licenses batteries... but I wanted Genuine Canon. If a dodgy battery leaks inside yoru camera and wrecks it, you have no come back with Canon... especially when you have an expensive camera.These batteries direct from Amazon, are 100% genuine and 100% perfect :-)

I am very sure that this is not a genuine Canon product, as it does not hold it's charge as drops from 100% to 75% in about 5 minutes of use and only lasts for about half an hour only shooting around 30 shoots, then the battery is dead. I would understand if it has only been charged for the first time, but after at least 15 charges it should perform a lot better than this. Do not buy from this seller!!! Pay more and get a genuine canon from a good photography dealer.

There are many reviews mentioning that this is a fake battery but this is a genuine Canon product. I got mine directly sold by Amazon, as opposed to "sold" by a shop in the Amazon Market and "fulfilled" by Amazon. It costs 1-2 pounds more than buying from the Amazon Marketplace. From the previous reviews it is not obvious which shop(s) were selling the fake ones.The product is sealed and the packaging has the genuine Canon hologram as described in the following link (check the specific patterns of the hologram in the link):[...]It has been mentioned in one of the Canon forums:[...]that someone got a fake with the original packaging. However, in my case even if someone could re-seal the package the marks on the edges (with the red colour missing) as the packaging was torn would still be visible.The blue label is different than the original battery which came with my 5D MK II, but apparently these things change over the years. The original did not have the silver label with the manufacturing date, this one has it. It is marked as "Europe only" on the side and it came with the yellow cover like the original one (see above link on Canon forum for the fake with a brown cover). The package contains a Canon instructor's leaflet as well.Charges to 100% in about 2 hours.Testing the battery: after 54 continuous shots it dropped to 98%.

The battery arrived in a tatty, battered old box. Genuine batteries have a 5 digit serial number which is registered on the camera and appears on the cameras LED screen. This did not. When I compared it to my OFFICIAL battery which was supplied with my camera the differences were obvious. The fake battery has a smoother darker body, while the official battery has more texture to it. On the back of the fake battery there was no small silver strip which shows the date of production and it states "DONOT" as one work instead of two on the warming. Also at the bottom left on the back there should be a letters embossed, the fake one had two which were not straight. On the side of the battery where it shows the "Do not throw in the bin" sign, the "CE" sign on the fake battery is too circular unlike the proper symbol.I was suspicious of the battery instantly due to the tatty box and dissimilar appearance to my other OFFICIAL battery. Once I put it in my camera and saw it couldn't even register my fears were realised. I sent it back to the chap (Yes this is sent by a man NOT by Canon as it appears on Amazon) stating that I knew it was a fake and asked for a refund, which is being processed. The fact that the seller did not contact me informing me why the item is posing as genuine, I do not know.Please don't be fooled thinking this is official. Either save the money and buy another cheap imitation on the internet or save up and buy the official battery with the 5 digit code.
