Excellent Model!
This model builds to almost a metre long and half a metre high. It is ONLY suitable for experienced modellers. It requires infinite care and patience coupled with an ability to repair accidental breakages. The degree of detail is excellent The real difficulties arise when fitting sails and rigging. This is best done where possible in advance of fitting to the masts .If any parts are lost or broken, replacements are obtainable from Revell free of charge. This is a beautiful model for those who know how to approach such complexity. Needs well developed organisational ability and dexterity. Be prepared to take your time - LOADS of time! (Check out the eye-watering cost of display cases first)

Cutty Sark - flawed but still impressive
I built this model 50 years ago, and there is no doubt that it’s showing its age. There is the expected flashing to clean up but in fairness it still looks mighty impressive. Assembly was quite good with key parts fitting together well. Although it’s a grand size there are still some extremely fiddly pieces which will test every inch of your patience. The down side is really in 2 main areas - instructions which are sometimes vague and occasionally downright misleading, and the rigging threads which come with the kit are horrible, especially the thicker thread for the standing rigging. This has a slightly plasticky feel and comes on a star shaped reel which puts kinks into the thread, and the amount of pull needed to Straighten out a rigging stay has the effect of slackening the others. Eventually I binned this thread and bought some cotton thread on an ordinary reel which worked perfectly. I’ve still got a lot of work before the rigging finished but it will be magnificent when finished. One final moan - in their wisdom Revell have decided to include those nasty moulded plastic shrouds which couldn’t look more unnatural if they tried. Surely a model of this size deserves a more authentic approach! Having said all that it’s a challenging build and the final result is worth the effort.

Great
Its the first "big" scale kit I have bought from Revel brilliant molding with not a lot of mold marks top marks. But its let down with plastic sails in my opinion but I'll build it with the sails up and use a muslin cloth but would still recommend the kit Cheers Mike (Dundee Scotland )

I'm enjoying the build
I'm still building the cutty Sark and have been for the past three months. Make sure you buy a air brush and all the paints, there are a few things that can be done to deck to make it look like real wood and I'm using real cloth for sails the plastic is not that nice for a few quid to make it look real is worth while. Put the work in and have a nice ship in the tank.

Some diagrams such as the bowsprit rigging need to be far better illustrated than what they are
At an impressive three feet in length; it was the Revell model of the Cutty Sark that I have long wanted to obtain for a long time now; but was unavailable until recently re issued. Its an old model and Naturally for this reason there is flashing on some parts. Where certain parts should fit ...holes are not always big enough. But no problem...you'll also have to use a file to make others parts fit....so its a trial run to make sure first parts fit OK before applying the glue. The painting to do the job properly will take many hours before any assembly...with the use of masking tape on the sides of the hull. There some parts that I have with the kit that aren't on the instructions for some reason??Patience will be needed...there is 11 pages of rigging diagrams. I shall do a little at a time...it will be a challenge. But hopefully the end result will be of impressive Museum quality in build. I plan to have the model placed into a showcase when completed...previously I have completed level four. Some diagrams such as the bowsprit rigging need to be far better illustrated than what they are...it really does take a lot of concentration a very challenging level five..
