You get what you pay for...
This book is great! I had to buy this for class and I wasn't too excited about the price but when it arrived and I was able to flip through it I was amazed. It's a very well formatted book that does an excellent job of teaching various aspects of photography. I am glad to have this book now and is really the first "school book" that I've been excited to read and I am sure I will read through it again after class. For the price however, I would have appreciated a hard cover. This is a fairly large book in terms of page size (difficult to read in bed!) and it just feels like it could get wrecked easily. A tougher cover would have made me feel a little better about my investment.

Great Book!
This book is fantastic! Fairly easy to read, with excellent photo examples of everything discussed within its pages. As a textbook, it teaches one all he or she needs to know about the basics and more of great photography. This book was assigned to me for my freshman year Frame and Sequence class at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television...if it's good enough for the best film school in the world, it's definitely a great choice for any aspiring photographer!

Excellent resource.
This book didn't provide any information that you can't get freely online, but it does offer structure that can't often be had elsewhere, which I suppose is one of the primary purposes of a text book such as this. I bought this after I had been involved with photography for a couple of years and mostly so that I could review and make sure that I hadn't missed any major concepts. I found it to be informative, well structured, and easy to understand. I have no complaints with this text.

Well done, steep price, required if you want PPA certification
This book is NOT for the beginner. It is basically a text book to be studied prior to taking the Certification Exam as a Professional Photographer under auspices of the Professional Photographers Association. I purchased it one year prior to the expectation of taking the exam. I'm about half way through it, and have learned lots of things I've not been exposed to in 5 years of photographing for pay. Examples: use of filters; infra red photography. Most everything else so far I've known. I also plan to take the exam prep class just prior to the exam. Get the book if you are considering becoming a Certified Professional Photographer.

Photography 10th Ed. Review
The book I purchased was a used edition and arrived in better than expected condition. I purchased this as a basic study guide for my PPA certification and so far I'm bored stiff, but then I've been schooled in photography and have been doing this for a few decades now. I cover a lot of this same material in the photo classes that I teach to armatures and some who claim to be professionals and based on their reaction in class I can tell you that this book would be invaluable to many, if not all of my students, in fact I've started recommending that they purchase this book.

For serious amateurs or aspiring professionals
This is a very thorough reference book that is a great choice for someone who really wants to know the background of professional photography and learn the "rules" as they exist traditionally. Having gone to school and gotten a degree in photography, I didn't see anything in the book that I wasn't already familiar with, however it was a nice refresher. I purchased the book to brush up on my photography knowledge in order to take a certification exam. This has proven to be a nice resource, however I believe it may not be necessary for certification purposes. As far as I can tell, the information in the book is very accurate and has been updated to reflect current technology. There is very little in-depth information on any particular aspect of photography. The reader is introduced to a specific concept or procedure, given general information about it, and told to consult an owners manual or other documentation for the remainder of the explanation. This is done in order that specificity does not outrank general accuracy.Bottom line: this is a great resource for new and aspiring professionals and collects information that would otherwise take great time to find and study. If you are a practicing professional photographer and have several years experience or more, you'll find very little new information. Most professionals who have been in the business for 5 or more years have been utilizing many of the techniques described on a frequent basis.

Self Education For Photographers
Photography 10th Edition is one of the best sources out there for understandable sequenced instruction. Whether using it for personal instruction or as a classroom textbook you will have to look hard to find it's equal. The visuals i.e. graphs, charts, and diagrams along with photographic examples give the reader a real handle on what is being taught. I like the book's objective rather than subjective approach to teaching. The only hard thing about the book to swallow is the price. Yes it is expensive but I place a high value on my students and myself becoming better photographers.
