This is a great resource for those on the road who need a safe, cheap location to stay the night without fear of being kicked out. Having a sense of whether or not there is running water and a bathroom is helpful. Useful also for laying the groundwork for a trip that won't empty your bank account. I've been in situations when I had to worry about getting in trouble if I pulled into an empty lot, so being able to quickly and easily access a free lot nearby is helpful.

If you like camping in the U.S., this is a very useful reference to have on hand to find new and exciting places to explore. It has a nice selection organized by state with descriptions and QR codes you can scan for directions and pictures of the locations.

What I like about this little handy sized book (small enough for my space-challenged campervan): the bar codes are genius. One links you to photos of each site, the other links you to a map and directions. It’s a slim volume, so I’m assuming it’s kind a “greatest hits” collection of free and cheap Western camping. I’m assuming more volumes will be coming as I see there is a companion book just for California. My only suggestion: it would have been helpful, at the start of each state chapter, to have a full map of the state with numbered dots for each site (and a key down below with the names corresponding with each number.) That would be handy for trip planning, to be able to scan the state and see what sites were on-route. Otherwise, a very handy book that I’m sure I’ll use with each roadtrip.

The book had many interesting places, but there was no detail written. Everything was scan the QR code. The book would have been better had they included photos and maps.

I feel like there's a whole lot more areas that they didn't mention in my area so I'm sure it's true for other states, but I really like this because of the bar codes. what a great idea. It shoes you pictures of the area which is great.

I'm upset, they don't forewarn you that ALL maps and photos are in QR codes, so if your phone can't read QR codes (as mine), this book is only good for fireplace kindling

This GEM of a resource for FREE (or cheap) camping in the West (as the title says)!!Lots of resources and actual sites with GPS coordinates, as well as MORE resources, to find even more locations! Good descriptions. Space to make your own notations! EASY & SIMPLE to use by state.I found this to be a GREAT investment at a BARGAIN price!

Not happy, this book has very few free listed for each State included. Would be better with a map of each state showing where they are located. This is a $2.00 book, would I buy again or recommend....No. I would send it back but I'm leaving on vacation and will have to use it anyway. Do I think it will actually help...No.
