A perfectly illustrated poem-story
We Planted a Tree is a sweet story that is told through a gentle, lulling poem. Diane Muldrow manages to explain the benefits of trees without lecturing and in a way that is a delight to read out loud. And in a way that an active four-year-old boy can understand and enjoy.Bob Staake illustrated this lovely poem-story, so that should automatically translate as the artwork in the is book is brilliant. If you are not familiar with Mr. Staake's work, it is brilliant; both as in colorful-brilliant and in clever-brilliant, and infused with a healthy dose of humor. We Plant a Tree IS a perfect book for Earth Day, and for every day thereafter.

Wonderful book
I loved this book! I got this as part of an Easter basket for my daughter and we both really enjoyed the story. It was great for a child learning to read. I really liked how it invites the reader to think outside of their own surroundings and imagine what things are like in other parts of the world.

Beautiful story and a lovely book
This book is a great reminder of why trees are so important in this world. The pictures are interesting and of various places around the world. Nice large hardcover with cover sleeve. Have bought this for gifts for 3 year olds multiple times. A special book - highly recommend.

Love the illustration - story not so much
We love Bob Staake at this house. We have two books that he illustrated and authored, the Doughnut Chef and The Red Lemon Tree the stories flow so nicely. The story by Diane Muldrow does not have the same flow. We read the stories out loud with the kiddos so that might make a difference. OK story line but great illustration.

Great book!
We have Donut Chef and The Red Lemon, we were looking for another Bob Staake book. My 3 yo son loves this one too. We read all three every night. It’s a non rhyming poem book about how trees help people and the environment.

"The tree grew up, and so did we."
Our 4 year old son enjoys the book, and we love it!The art of Bob Staake is captivating, as always, for the littles and grown-ups alike. He included his "Donut Chef" on one of the pages, and our son is now on the hunt for any other "Easter eggs" he's hidden along the way.The poem is beautiful and meaningful (yes, to the four year old as well). It was a great way to introduce poetry to our bookshelf. We're so happy about this gorgeous addition to our library of "tuck-in" stories. And we're probably biased because we planted a tree when each of our children were born...so they could watch the tree grow up with them.
